This is super-fucked way to do business, (I'm actually surprised as I would've never seen this short sighted decision from Sony of Japan!) I'm glad that I no longer rely on consoles for my gaming! I never bought PS3/360 because I'm primarily an RPG enthusiast, and RPGs for consoles (Even used games) are well above the price of even new PC titles, not to mention the price of a PS3 is still $300.

I hope that Nintendough aren't the only ones without this horrid DRM, because I would hate to see console JRPG gaming reduced to the only RPGs being Zelda and Mario...I remember when it was only Sega and Nintendough, where you had to wait 3-6 months for a single title to be released in a sea of mediocre platformers, horrid movie tie-ins, and sports games. Were it not for Sony, I would've given up gaming completely because it simply cost too much at that time, (Avg game @ $80-90) and now this...

Thank GOG for Eastern/Northern Europe, because North America, (That includes U.S and Canada, And Japan it seems) will destroy console gaming as we know it by decimating the used game market of which it relies so heavily on! I'm pretty sure that what is crap for consoles will be fucked for PC gamers because the UbiEABlizz machine will be emboldened to force their draconian efforts towards their user-base, and will not be satisfied until all gamers are in their pocket!

Well, FUCK YOU greedy little shits, I'm fine with boycotting your asses, and hope that others have enough sense to do the same, and if you have any doubt as to the effectiveness of consumer boycotting, simply consider the situation that developed with Mass Effect 3!

...Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to pre-order "Legend of Grimrock!"

With GOG going more current games DRM i honestly see no reason to invest in a new console outside of ps3... i'll buy 1-2 more for archive reasons and keep them on ice so i can enjoy my games later but eventually all the PS# games i play i'll get on PC when they drop sub $20 so...

if they do go pure onlineDRM then goodbye consoles... I fully understand the reasoning, they make no money from used games but why not disable trophy's and multiplayer or any kinda cool built in features... EG for the dungeon souls games disable every part of the "online" portion of it was a used game... kinda makes buying it pointless if you cant read the messages or go ghost in another game.. same for Borderlands.. letem buy it but disable all forms of multiplayer components unless you sign in with your PSN then tie it to a built in unique hardcoded serial number embeded in the game copy's files ^_^
After seeing THIS I truly do not doubt that the industry isn't done with fuckin' over it's customers, console'rs and PC'ites alike!

PS4 might not look so bad now...
It's all conjecture at this point. Nobody has any idea what might be coming, but websites need fresh 'stories' so they dream things up. Call me when something factual actually appears.
Both the PS4 and XBox "720" rumors just appear to be a bunch of successful internet trolling, E3 is just around the corner, we'll know plenty about the PS4 by then (I think MS is still remaining mum on the 360 followup console, though).

Agreed. The website with these stories (particularely Kotaku) tends to name their sources and these were anonymous. Therefore, I'll take these rumors with a grain of salt.
Actually the used games are a problem of the developers. I don't understand why console makers have to meet their demands...well I know that developers throw money both at Sony and Microsoft, but still they MUST be aware of the fact that they will lose much of their client base (especially those who cannot afford new games that often and RELY on used games).

Too bad that they cannot see the simple way to fix it: make games that we will like to invest in. Look at WoW. Whether you like it or not personally, you have to admit that the game is really well done, so much that millions of people decide to put money in it every month.

Stop using the stick, but use the carrot. Like extra content for new players, the ability to get the first substantial DLC for 50% off if you buy the game new.

Or maybe do it like they did in the stoneage? Make really good games that people won't want to sell. Or if you insist on making shit at least reward us for dealing with it. ;p

The gaming industry is becoming like the music industry, clinched to their medieval ways and refusing to see the light.

The current DRM mentions are simply hardware supported project $10. Really it's to be expected when unlike films you have stores actively dealing in secondhand sales almost to the point of exclusivity. If DVD's etc were as actively traded as games are you can bet we'd have had similar things in bluray rather than just the incentivised "digital copy".

What really gets me though is people are fine when it happens on PC(steam) but DRM on their consoles? hell no thats not right!!!11one. -.-

I do understand their point and I know that they do lose (or actually don't earn more) money because of used games. That's why I don't find that "Online Pass" idea too bad. It doesn't limit your game experience (aside blocking multiplayer) and if you want to have more features you give some contribution to the developer.
That's the perfect solution for people who want to get the game cheap and don't have internet on their consoles. Which believe it or not is not that uncommon. There are still people who have consoles and don't have Internet connection. Now with what they're proposing now those customers are completely alienated and in the end just might not buy the new console at all.

As for Steam I don't really understand the fuss about it. I personally like steam and never had any problems with it. The thing is that unlike other DRM ideas (*cough*securom) Steam is pretty clear. you know what you can expect from it. Also using it gives features I find really nice like the community, chatting mid game, browsing or lately, in case of Skyrim, the Steam Workshop. It's not like Games for Windows that it only gives you a friends list and that pretty much it.

Actually GFWL can give all those as does origin and pretty much every other online DRM out there but once again if it's not Valve it must be evil -.-
