I went to mubi.com with the gog.com way of thinking just to find out that I cannot download the movies whatsoever, just watch them from the browser. It's a shame, I like their selection. And then I have realized that I have no idea about the digital distribution world for films. So, the question is the one in the title, is there anything like gog for movies? Some place where I can BUY movies and download them to my hard disc with no ugly surprises. And I'd like to buy them one by one, not subscribe through a monthly fee.

In all seriousness though, you're out of luck for DRM free, legal downloads of Movies.

Yea, that was my point. The only way of downloading legal DRM-free movies, is by using Bittorrent. But the movies available legally are the ones with a public domain, which are most of the times, some few dozen years old movies, indie documentaries or stuff like that.

There is no place, afaik, that sells DRM-free movies.

Not quite the solution you're seeking, but we've picked up a ton of stuff like this from local used CD / DVD stores, including pawn shops. We go in about once a month and rifle through the bins, usually finding at least one gem per trip. My favorite finds so far: Undercover Brother for $4, The Great Escape for $6, and a Riddick trilogy pack for $8. Right there in the same price as GOGs.

While not quite what your asking for, http://vodo.net/ is a nice place for 'indie' like movies, free and DRM free. They are downloaded by BitTorrent. I would highly recommend the series Pioneer One.
