trusteft: Is it possible and how much so, to play solo in Dragon Age Origins and the M&M series?
This is how Might and Magic 1 might go solo.

Something tells me Might and Magic is not the best game to try and play without more than one party member.
Soloing in Arcanum is actually very easy. Just make a tech/melee character, pumping up melee, dodge, herbalism and smithy. You can easily make your own powerful healing items with the oodles of herbs found in the wild/stores and once you get the pyrotechnic axe schematic you effectively become a god. That thing slices most regular enemies in half with one blow, demolishes golems and takes down even the toughest bosses with relative ease. And the best part is you can find it fairly early on if you're adventurous.

Neverwinter Nights is also fun to solo in, although certain fights can require a little effort if you're using a concept build. Lots of potioning, using the stone of recall, etc. I'm currently in Chapter 3 soloing as a knight rogue (rogue build with str/con instead of dex, wears heavy armor) and so far the only challenge is being swarmed by heavy hitters like barbarians or skeletal chieftains. Even then, Use Magic Device is handy for scrolls/rods/wands that help even the odds.

Now if only GOG would sell NWN so I could finally get the expansions I missed out on and try out all the prestige classes. <.<

I would say that would be true of many of the older (1st generation) rps. There was just more of a chance your whole party could be wiped out in one round than anything we see today. This really confuses me as it is so easy to save and reload now compared to then. I mean we had to save on the back side of a disk and swap it out reload the game and move on.

Well because it was really, REALLY annoying and unfair and while I do think RPGs should be unfair, there is some limit to that. Also, it is the reason why I do not play dungeon crawlers, even thou I always give them another chance every now and then

I was more referring to the spells which would instantly eradicate one person in your party, which if you were playing normally (with 6 people in the party) it would just mean a trip to a temple and some gold. Although, there are enemies who can easily wipe your party before you ever get a chance to act if you attack with a low level. *cough* Succubus *cough*

kmonster: I've soloed
IWD (3 times HoF mode solo from scratch with cleric29/mage, fighter/druid, fighter/thief)
IWD2 (1 normal solo with half-orc barbarian followed by HoF solo with this character and 1 deep gnome ranger HoF solo from scratch)
I played Icewind Dale on HoF from scratch, albeit with a full party. Kuldahar Pass was great fun. The Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale games really reward experimenting with unusual party compositions, there is so much depth there.
