tryingnewstyle: I dont honestly see what makes Raven's latter games so hated. I thought they were awesome. Nothing outstanding but solid games overall.
Raven's games aren't bad, going by the trends in games today. They're also quite polished. The only Raven game I haven't played is Wolfenstein. But, they certainly aren't industry-breakthroughs or even evolutions. This isn't unfair criticism for most of their games, considering the influences that some of the licenses they hold have.

As I recall, when Wolfenstein was released, comments generally ran along the lines of it being a good game, but apart from the nitpickers, I believe that those with genuine complaints simply felt that it was nothing mind-bogglingly spectacular.

lowyhong: The surprising part was that he said Kotick was "quite a nice guy" :O. Well, I can't really say I'm "surprised" surprised, but I wouldn't have imagined Kotick to be the sort to drink and chat with employees at a party.
Kotick would have to be a smooth talker to get where he is and stay there. Judge a man by his actions, not his words.

But yes, that's not too surprising, unfortunately. Raven have been far too dependant for far too long. It's been too long since the Raven was last able too spread its wings and now their fate is sealed.
The only Raven Game i have been dissapointed with is Quake 4

I love Quake 4.

Some of the enviroments are simply awesome later in the game if you are into the whole dark sci-fi/industiral look. Really give the impression of crawling deep inside a mechanized world. The lighting, textures, props and atmosphere is amazing. I also liked how you had to reach objectives on different parts of the planet using tram systems, giant elevators and such, gave the experience some extra scale.

The bosses too are great and off course the classic scene with the transformation of the hero, probably one of the most shocking moments I ever experienced as a gamer.

Too me Quake 4 is a great polished sci-fi epic with amazing artwork. I never could figure out what the hate was about. I guess its mostly about gaming going mainstream and the majority of FPS gamers no longer being sci-fi / horror nerds like in the olden days :P
Quake 4 was really great but Wolfenstion was really bad. I couldn't finish the game because it was so boring. Haven't tried Singularity, yet.

The ending was crap. But I thought the rest of the game was alright.
SOF 1 or 2 would be droolworthy.
INSTA-BUY.

I can't wait to knee-cap somebody again...

FPS games have definitely gone backwards in the mutilation stakes since then.

I remember an article that said I think in SOF2 there were over 200 pieces to the AI's head you could blow off lol.

I could guarantee these games would be top sellers for a couple weeks. The first one had a good story, the character was bad ass, the game was a blast.

I could go without the dismemberment. Modern games dont have it and it doesnt detract from the action.

What you thought of the second one's story?

I think the second one was a bit different to the first. The graphics are a bit crappier and the gore isn't the same as in part one. I'm from Germany, i never played our crap version. You know: robots in a parallel universe ans this stuff.

Who says Quake 4 was good, read this, difference between german and international version:

SOF1 is easier to classify as a sci-fi game, what with all the high-tech powered weapons that you get by the end of the game. SOF2 is a lot more down to earth, and the final boss quite clearly reflects this ;). I don't recall it having non-conventional weapons too.
