I just started to work and earning money. I thought the at last the time came to buy my beloved games original and give my support to developers. But as i delve into deeper and deeper i've learned about the DRM, confining clients and get shocked!

From when the games are corrupted this way?? When will this madness stop?

Let's say i want to play Half-Life without installing Steam? Or play MW3 without DRM? It is not possible i see.

I love games. And i want to follow them. What kind of tech, forward-step, backward-step they got. And for this i have to/like to play them.

If i give a game my hard-earned money i don't want it to install a malware on my system or made me to call customer services for new activation code or launch it from a client. If i would bought this kind of game i would feel cheated.

Now i am not promoting piracy but i for gamers like me, are game companies giving chance to not to pirate the game and enjoy it "how it is meant to be"? Especially when pirated-ones are hassle-free and doesn't need any kind of crappy client.

In all this madness how come no one came and say "Wake up Mr. Manager!, Wake up CEO!, Wake up who manages these kind of things!" you are ruining everything!!! Aren't you playing any of these games?

And for god's sake! Why people still continue to buy all this Origin, Steam, Tages, SecuROM etc. crap!?

I bought over 100 games since i started to games(most of them this month) and never bought a single one that has DRM or client crap.

We must raise our voice to reach their brains through their thick skull i think. This non-sense must end.
Vote with your feet. Don't buy the games.

Or, buy the game, then pirate it. Though that often restricts you from multiplayer option.
People have actually been complaining about DRM for years. Unfortunately, most of the big publishers don't listen and, in fact, just come out with more restrictive schemes instead. Many people say they'll vote with their wallet by not buying the game, but the majority are all talk and no action. They end up buying anyway because they can't stand not having the latest and greatest game.

One hopes that eventually they'll see the futility of DRM and just forgo it altogether, but the reality is this is unlikely to happen. Ah, a man can dream...

I personally look at DRM schemes like Steam and Origin as severely impacting my perceived value of a game. Therefore I don't flat out refuse to buy them, but I do refuse to pay more than $5 for them.

Yes it is.

not legally. end of story. by going the piracy route you just encourage further DRM, making the situation worse for the rest of us.

either accept the way a publisher/developer chooses to release his games in, or be man enough to say no, and say no all the way. you are not entitled to get somebody else's product your way.

Because a lot of people really don't care all that much about it and have never run into any real problems with them. The key point to remember about moral issues - not everyone will share yours.

chances are, if you truly have bought over 100 games, you have installed your fair share of copy protection and DRM. games have been protected with Tages, StarForce, SolidShield, SecuROM, ProtectDrive, etc. for years if not a decade.

the difference is that the above methods are hardware-based while Steam is account-based.

I can legally for HL. There's an orange disc sitting in my filing cabinet with a serial key on the case.

If you can find one, you can get an old boxed copy of Half-Life 1 that will work without Steam. Apart from that, just keep an eye out. There are still games (mostly indie ones) that come out with no DRM whatsoever. Failing that, there should be enough great games released before 2004 or so to keep you occupied basically forever.

Or you could move to consoles. One of their major selling points is that you actually own the games you buy (usually). I hope you like controllers and lesser graphics, though.

And since I am pirating it, it holds no value for me other than to just play the game. As a pirate, if I cannot get it to run, I would just forget about it and do / play something else. I didn't spend a single EUR on it, so there is absolutely no need for me to 'work' to get it to run (if the DRM was the problem), or 'vote' with my wallet.

If my actions encourage publishers to use DRM, as I've said above, I don't care, I will just move on to the next game in line.

The customers are those who approve DRM, not the pirates, they really don't give a crap about it.

(I'm not pirating games, but you get the point.)
WoW will never be played legally by people refusing DRM. For MMORPGs you can hardly avoid it.

You can't expect to have your cake and eat it. Going the "I will never buy anything with any sort of DRM EVER!!!!!!" route means that you're going to miss out on a lot of current titles that might otherwise be great. Pirating the titles in question is only going to make the problem worse, since most developers/publishers are absolutely convinced that DRM is the solution to their piracy problems. You'll just undermine your own protest. So you'll have to decide if adopting a draconian anti-DRM stance is worth all the games you're going to miss out on.

Also, you can easily play Halflife 1 and any of its expansions without steam. Just get the original disks.

MMO developers have been trying to avoid classic DRM schemes. With most MMO games, the actual game files can be downloaded freely, but you will need a license to use / play them. As far as I can see, there is no way to remove the 'DRM' from MMO games (unless you want to get rid of personal stats, personal accounts, personal characters and bunch of other things around which the basics of MMOs evolve).

But at least you did not pay money. So it softens the protest but saves the wallet. Unless you end up in prison. The only real concern pirates have probably is getting those annoying letters with horrendous numbers in them.

Games are like luxury products. You don't need them to live and certainly not now. So to some extent it's possible to limit yourself, not buy all the crap or buy it later, when it is not that high priced. Surely there is no legal way around DRM, but at least you can mimize the amount of money you're spending on DRMed games.

And buying at services like GOG might also help.

Say "No" with your money. Only buy DRM free games. And convince others to do the same. But most people in this world don't care about DRM unfortunately...
