HGiles: Probably because the thread title brings America up in an insulting way. People, please don't take cheap potshots at my country. We're not perfect, but neither is anywhere else. Plus, anytime GOG forums start a discussion on this we get trolls showing up who hijack the thread with patronizing BS. Go find a political forum and start a flamewar there, kthnxbye.

OT: Oh Microsoft *endless facepalms* Why have you suddenly decided to shove what you want on your customers? Read my lips - your target audience could be far broader if you would let go of this vision you have and let customers be customers. That's the freedom people expect from you, and losing it is actively ticking off your platforms' lifelines (i.e., developers. Just because Balmer was stupid on television doesn't mean he's wrong).
So people aren't allowed to say insulting things about America just because other places aren't perfect? Makes no sense. The childish act of pointing fingers never made any sense to me. If you don't like people saying negative things about your country, then go out and make your country better in the eyes of the world. Your post only reinforces "MURICA!!!". And no, the world doesn't ignore everyone else and only picks on the USA. That would be unfair but that is not the case.

That's not what I said. I said, this isn't the time or place for political discussion, and there really isn't any place for being blatantly insulting about someone's home. Strawman arguments don't help you here.

People have the right to be insulting, if they have a reason. Everywhere in this world is someone's home. Does that mean we should just all keep our mouths shut? And there will always be political discussion, it's unavoidable. It really is. If it bothers you that much, I suggest becoming a hermit or living somewhere like North Korea, where political discussion can get you sent to a concentration camp.

We could discuss something without insults. It's hard, but I think it's worth a shot.

I can understand that using the word "MURICA" is basically trolling but how can you really take potshots at someone's country without being insulting? The trolling can be stopped but there will always be words that are insulting unless people only say nice things about other countries like a bunch of cowards. People shouldn't be cowards.

There's a huge difference between saying "I think issue X is a problem" or "I disagree with how X is handled in country Y" or "Cultural aspect Z seems very strange to me", and saying "I think country Y is despicable and terrible and going to the dogs. The only way I can be happy in life is to move away from country Y because it disgusts me" or "Country Y is terrible because *insert reasons*. One is an attempt to talk about an issue, and one is just an attempt to insult country Y and people living there. There's a lot of the latter going on in this thread. I wish we could have more of the former.

But if you find a country despicable or just way below your standards, don't you want to insult it and the insult the people who support it? It's a normal thing. Pointless though and usually leads to nothing good but it's normal. Sometimes insults even lead to death. But people like sharing their thoughts. I find it unfair to people to expect everyone to not share their thoughts to a point everything inside them is bottled up. I find it unfair to expect everyone to be polite and not insult anyone or anything. It's like having no freedom. People should be free to insult each other and whatever, I think as long as they aren't simply just trolling. How can you have love in your heart, without some hate? It's also not good let emotions bottle up. If someone sees a racist, a libertarian, a commie, a religious person or someone he or she dislikes(or hates), for example, he or she should let loose a barrage of insults. Do you really want insulting someone or something to become illegal? Think about how much that would suck.

Not following our destructive instincts is one of the things that indicates maturity and intelligence. If something truly needs to be said, then say it in a way that will help people see your point of view.

I find that the more I practice being kind the better I am at it.

From what I've seen all my life, bottling things up is the opposite of maturity and intelligence. I also value freedom. And in order to be free, you need to have the freedom to share your thoughts, no matter if people get insulted or whatever. If you can't share your thoughts, you are a prisoner or worse.

PS
I'm not suggesting some kind of chaos with everyone insulting everyone left and right. I just think it is good when people insult despicable acts or despicable things or anything people feel strongly against. It's obvious, you passionately find such behavior to be very uncivilized so no point in arguing with each other anymore. We won't change each other. I also found your previous post very insulting and that proves that a lot of what I've said so far is true.

This has probably been posted somewhere, but I'll leave it here nonetheless (since I am too lazy to read the thread):

I think that's rather funny ;-)
