Hi, all! First of all, wow! Gog.com has made quite an impression on me. I've been out of the "PC gaming grid" for a while, in pursuit of other interests, and when I come back, I find this great service with mission statements I can agree with whole heartedly.

So why was I off of PC gaming?
My budget for upgrading my PC kept decreasing, and at one point I decided that I will jump out of this rat race, and buy a PS3. Don't get me wrong, I haven't regretted the purchase, but the game catalogue was always missing something. I used to play a heck of a lot of Heroes of Might and Magic (mainly 3, but the other titles as well), and Civ IV, and the sorts.
After trying Civilization Revolution demo on PS3 I kinda gave up on turn based strategy on the PS3 and pursuited GTA clones and party games.

So what was I doing for the past three years, gaming wise?
In a word: Boardgaming. There's a lot of great turn based strategy games in the contemporary boardgame market, in all sorts of shapes and sizes. There's something magical about analog gaming IMHO.

So what made me look for new PC gaming experiences? (instead of reinstalling HMM3 for the thousandth time)
In a word: A certain boardgame. Last December a boardgame called Eclipse got published. It's a medium weight 4X space game. Me and my buddies have played it since week 1, and we're having a blast.
I read the designer diaries written by the game designer, and he mentioned an old PC game Master of Orion 2 as one of Eclipse's main inspirations.

"Master of Orion 2? Hmm, might as well check it out someday.", I thought to myself.

Fast forward to July, I find GoG.com, see Master of Orion 1 + 2 for $5.99, and I think "What the heck, why not!". *click. Click.*...*click, click*...*click-click-click-click-click-* "Sweet mother of god, this game is awesome!"

So, I've gotten a boardgaming buddy of mine to buy it too, and he's hooked. Two other guys have played this a lot as kids. Also, a colleague has shown interest in partaking in a multiplayer match. Whoa, I say.

I've now bought a DOSBox port for my Android phone, and I'm playing Master of Orion 2 while commuting. I'm also investigating how I could setup my Dropbox account so that I could play the same save game on my PC and on my Android.

So, long story short, hello everybody! I'm glad to be here, though I won't be participating in the forums that much, because I'm busy rehearsing playing Master of Orion 2 for our first multiplayer game! ;)

Also, of course I'm looking for game recommendations. Is there a sub-forum for that, or should I just pop a new thread for that kind of discussion?

Northburns: So where does a new user introduce himself around here?
Right here, right now.

Well, there are plenty of threads for it, so you can try and search for those, or you can just make a new one. People's tastes vary, so stating the kinds of games you like can narrow the recommendations down a bit.

You could also just say here what sort of games you like, and we can recommend you some titles right away :-)
Welcome and +1 for the offline board gaming :)

We do have a community driven wiki @ www.gogwiki.com
Just a have a look there, you will mostly get more information there about the games available here ;)

Board games more like bored games hyuk hyuk

You said you played a lot of Civ IV and now MoO2?
Have you ever tried Civ 3 Conquests? It's the best in the series and imo the best 4X game of all time.
