I remembered that I used the Underlord mod for my later playthroughs. It does quite a bit of rebalancing and adds some stuff as well; I think it improved a lot. It may also increase difficulty, not sure about that anymore.

Apparently, there is now another mod based on Underlord, but it seems more focused on many new addition and some small, but rather drastic gameplay changes. No idea if it is good or simply too much.

There are of course the total conversion mods (Lilith, in particular) and the masteries mods (for an all new set of skills), but I never got around to playing those.

edit: Oh, and this mod seems quite big as well, for all the D2 fans

Maybe I should replay TQ some day...

tinyE: I object! That's a fish, not a lizard! :D Now, they are both cold blooded, they both lay eggs, and they both have scales. Perhaps I should study this further? God knows I have the time.
hahaha... I know, right? =D
But hey! Some kinds of fish are viviparous AND (partially) hot blooded. So not all lays eggs or are cold blooded! (I.E. White Sharks) Ha! Gotcha! :P

Looks like the key is still up for grabs people. Pun away!

FAButzke: =(
So you don't agree that the combat mechanics in Skyrim are also: click-click-loot?

StingingVelvet: They're extremely different games, from their perspectives to their priorities, and I don't make a connection at all.
Interesting to see where you draw the line because while different they still have many things in common (shallow and clicky-cliicky).

Not in my opinion.

I've never played Skyrim so I can't really give my own opinion. But I have heard about all the loot whoring and people who can't stop picking up everything that's not nailed down. Are you sure most people aren't playing it about the same as something like Borderlands 2 (as an example)?

They both CAN be loot games, but the difference is games like Diablo and Borderlands have very little beyond loot and character building to keep you playing. Skyrim on the other hand has exploration, story, lore, quest design and other such things.

My main motivation in these games is exploration, lore and story. Skyrim offers me a lot of that, especially the first two, while these overhead clicky-clicky games tend to offer me none of it, or very little.

Also the combat is entirely different. In games like Titan Quest I feel like I am just clicking on shit, and there's usually large mobs that break my brain with the repetition. Skyrim on the other hand can be played a lot of different ways from a first-person perspective, much more immersive and interesting. I admit if you just play as sword and shield dude it can feel like repetitive whacky-whacky, but I tend not to do that.

Btw, is modding the Steam version any problem at all? Should I dig out my disk copies?
It's a great and thoroughly underrated open world ARP I keep meaning to play it more, but with Path Of Exile now ... can't wait to see what comes out of Grim Dawn.

I fully expect to eschew the world of other video games for at least a solid month after Grim Dawn comes out.

I don't have the Steam version, but a quick search suggests it should be no problem at all. The biggest "inconvenience" I read about was setting Steam not to update the game.

Well that's a matter of changing a drop down setting, I think I can handle that.

Wish I had a DRM free digital copy, and I know I can virtualize the DVDs on ISO because I've done it before, it's still a pain in the ass though.
