I'm not sure if this is some sort of joke but after it plopped it's four gigs on my drive it had some updates to download...

...and now, for hours later I've still got thirty more files (out of 47) for it to pull.

Anyone have this game? Is this normal? What is the final size of the game? Can I back up the fully patched game?
It's an online only game, like Diablo 3, last I heard. And it has had a ton of updates.
Can't say how huge it is finally, but I have it installed... too bad, I have not played for some time. It is a bit boring ;)
Back in my WoW phase I used to download the client and individual patches from torrents, it went a bit quicker than through the updater. Not sure whether Darkspore is popular enough to have such things torrented or not.
It's a total of 7 Gigs in size - 4 Gigs are on the disc if you buy retail like I did.

The reason it took so long is because the installer and not the time taken to download. For some reason, however and where ever it is installing does so meticulously.

If found the game for about $17 USD yesterday in town and snatched it up quick not totally realizing what it is but it's another Diablo / Tochlight game but they've implemented a sort of 'Pokemon' aspect to it.

I got all that from research on Youtube, however, because after all was said and done my computer is too old to run it. XD
Origin makes it less painful to install, but yeah, it's big. Though honestly I just downloaded Wing Command IV from GOG and HOLY CRAP!
If you could run it i'd just torrent a RECENT upload(with the right updates) and be done with it....alot better/faster than waiting on the servers, at any rate.

Also as for your PC not running it: Demo, demo, demo.........just a thought for next time.

I'm picking up an i7 before the year is out so I should be able to play it around X-Mas.

Fortunately all the dowloaded patches are in rar format and set specifically in a 'Patches' folder in the game's directory so I'm just going to burn all of them to disk for the next time I reinstall.

I don't think there will be any new updates from here on out, the game is a year or two old.

An i7? Nice. :)

(Must be nice being made of money and all, grumble grumble....oh wait, what was I trying to say again? Don't pay me no mind, then. ;)....)

Good thinking.

(My demo point stands, though...;)...)

Ah definitely. I bench marked the newest Street Fighter to find out it doesn't run on my system - No way that I was going to spend forty US bucks for a flunker but 20 NZD for Darkspore wasn't too steep of a risk.

And naw, my girl and I are dirt poor but will have a wee bit towards the end of the year to take care of some things that we've been needing for awhile now.

The new PC is one of them. She's got a relatively new laptop running Vista but this desktop that I use is nine years old.

And people say "demos" serve no real purpose. ;)

/silly mode off

But yeah, paying big bucks for games only to find out later that you can't play them is crap, and imo one should do whatever they can(And feel comfortable with doing.)do to mitigate the chances of such disappointment......especially if one is also destitute or close to it.
-----------------------------
Like food? I do hope you remembered to get food. Your girl keeps nagging me to remind you about that. :p....;)

(And NO, she says ramen won't cut it anymore, mister! :p)
--------------------------
We ones on a budget seem to be the best at getting every ounce of use out of old systems/stuff, it seems. My last PC was 8 years old before I got my most recent one 2 years ago, and i'll probably have this one for 6-7 years as well.

Yeah, you learn to make do with, learn about and take special care of what you have when you don't have the funds to acquire new stuff easily.

I came to realize why most people's PC's die after only four years is either because a cheap and easy to replace component blew, they're mistaking dust and fragmentation as a failing PC or they're not stopping to learn what to use and how to go about cleaning up bad registry entries and junk files on their computers resulting in theirs processors blowing from unnecessary and excessive work.

My brother in law brought is old desktop to me to fix up. The hard drive is shot...I could format it but his real issue is that he's somehow gone and password-locked himself out of CMOS.

So either
A: The lockout is factory default but he tossed the documents containing the password.
B. He accidentally locked himself out
or
C. He let spyware build up so much that it eventually pulled down some peace of Malware that did this but I was always under the impression that CMOS was sacred and could not be tampered with via software or hacking since you have to be totally offline and at the boot point to even access it.

Yup...true enough.

Or because they got a lemon(bad product...either the whole pc or a part they put in), had a power surge come through the unit, spilled something on the thing, etc.

But yeah, alot of stuff can be prevented & a PC's life extended quite a bit(Barring some freak accident, etc) by knowing how to take care of your stuff & how to prevent(or fix) "simple"(Compared to more complex problems.) hardware or software issues.
-----------------------------
If you're going to format anyway then find the bios for the pc's mobo and flash it sometime. That should fix the issue and allow access to all the features of the system.

Just checking, but did you remove the battery and clear the CMOS? You can do that with most old computers to get rid of the password. :)

Ah, thanks for the tip...hadn't thought of that.

Hmm...that could work too. I've never done a flash before but it shouldn't be hard to figure out.
