I'm so very confused. I was under the impression that Steam only cared about where a game was bought, but according to threads like this one that's not the case?

So let's say I want a Steamworks game not available in Germany. What happens if

a) I buy it via Steam from a foreign country?
b) I buy it via retail from a foreign country?
c) I buy it via Gamersgate?
d) I get a buddy to buy it on Steam and then gift it to me?

And in which cases can I "lose" my game when I travel to another country?

Steamworks cares about where Steam is being used, so if you buy something in an unrestricted area (regardless of what retailer you got it from), then try to use it in a restricted area, it won't work.

Aw hell's bells, that's bad news.

Thanks anyway.
