I'm a bit late to the party, but after watching the movie today, I also checked out Moviebob's review and even though it's more of a rant than a review, I found several of my own observations echoed in it.
I'm a lot less passionate about the whole thing, and I admit I'm no expert on the comics and don't really care how faithful the movies are in detail. But as a movie buff I have to say I found Sam Raimi's version far superior on every level. It managed to tell more in less time, while TASM felt long-winded, uninspired, humorless (without really being dark, serious or particularly mature either), full of plot-holes and implausible character painting and development - there was hardly a moment in which I could actually symphatize with the characters and there were no surprises either. I didn't expect a lot from this movie, but I assumed if they were going to re-tell the origin story they would do it in a significantly different way, come up with a few original ideas. And instead it just felt like a soulless copy, with nothing remarkably new but everything that's touching and interesting about Peter Parker/Spiderman and that worked in Raimi's movies travestied in such a way that it's utterly destroyed.
It's not a bad movie per se, it's an average, mildly entertaining action movie with some possible appeal for anyone who didn't watch Raimi's movie. But to justify a reboot of the series, I'd have expected something more creative and original. I'll probably remember it as the most unnecessary movie I watched this year and I'm glad I didn't pay extra for the 3D-version. I read in a review that whoever doesn't watch it in 3D is missing the best, and I fear that might very well be true, but I think that's a backhanded compliment for a movie, especially with regards to the story-telling.
