jamyskis: Zynga's effectively the poster boy for crap Facebook games that encourage you to spam your friends or spend disproportionate amounts of money on useless shit. They are, however, far from being the only one, but they are the largest part of a phenomenon that is gradually killing off Facebook.
What bothers me is that there really isn't any reason I can see that Facebook / "Social" games need to be this terrible. Even the most casual of players deserve better than what many of these games offer. It's definitely not just Zynga, but as jamyskis said, they do come across as the poster boy for this gaming model.
Well the thread title stops being a question when Zynga themselves admit they're evil, and revel in it.

RayRay13000: Mafia Wars? Play Grand Theft Auto.
I would have picked Saints Row, with all the gang wars, roaming with your homies, buying out stores and cribs etc, gathering your daily (or whatever) income.

That's why I'm hoping EA will step on their neck instead of allowing Zynga to weasel out of it through a settlement

I really, really have no love for Zynga, and this might very well be true. But:

"Well, if allegations from an anonymous source are to be believed, some would say FarmVille developer Zynga could be the real-world equivalent."

Any "article" that starts with this sentence is probably best ignored.

point taken, so here's something from a slightly more reputable source: http://www.sfweekly.com/2010-09-08/news/farmvillains/
Even farmville was a ripoffof another game, this article goes into far more detail into Zynga's business practices

edit: The article may be old, but it does show how little has changed

Zynga the company is like if EA ass-rammed the Devil and somehow managed to have a hellish offspring that was raised entirely on milk infused with human tears and the cotton fibers in dollar bills that finds no pleasure greater than making you advertise the game to people who don't want to play it while making you click on NPCs and shit to 'win the game'.

Zynga games are equally as shitty as most Facebook games, but if you look closely each game is the FUCKING EXACT GAME with 'different graphics and the usual BUY SHIT TO GET MORE philosophy'.
EA is sueing Zynga for copying their games almost to the letter or pixel.

EA have already proven their determination to see these things through, like they did with Langdell.
Am I the only one imagining the EA and Zynga bosses duking it out Thunderdome-style?
