So, I'm currently working out an incredibly dull notice period at a job where none of my experience can be used going forward so I am, essentially, a seat warmer at present.

I would like to kill some time playing a game but I would like that game to be easily concealable (e.g. windowed, in a browser) and not make use of the MIDI chip as beeping tunes and arcade-esque blooping noises might not go down too well in an open plan office in which some people still have jobs to do.

I would particularly enjoy turn based strategy games like Risk or Civilisation.
Jagged Alliance 2, with sound turned off.
Master of Orion 2, with sound turned off.
Master of Magic, with sound turned off.
Jagged Alliance is turn based combat, and can be paused when not in combat (Map Screen), while the other two are turn based DosBox games.
For JA2, a key M (or space if time is running in Map Screen) and alt-tab will get you back to "work".

Try Desktop Dungeons. It's not a turn-based strategy, it's more of a 10-minute turn-based puzzle game disguised as a roguelike, or something like that. And it's awesome.

Does not run in a browser, but it's portable. Can easily be run from an USB stick, if you want to.
Crayon physics deluxe should be good for this. I'm planning on bringing it in to work for my own downtimes.
no idea if its still around but I used to play soldat instead of working (this was in 04 BTW so its probably dead )

Give this a shot, in-browser DOS games. :)

That's a winner. A good little trundle. Very discreet. Nice work!

Nice one. Although it's almost too much choice...

Naw, Soldat's still around.

You should be careful, though. It takes a little bit to exit ;)

I would recommend Inside a Star Filled Sky (available on steam). It's unique, addictive, and is easy to exit. Also, it can be played in little chunks or for hours on end. Oh yeah, and it has a tiny file size, and it will run on just about anything.
