There is to be a stand-alone expansion to Sins of a Solar Empire. New ships, new tech trees, and new factions.

I'm of mixed mind. The expansion still won't have a single-player campaign, something sorely missed in the original. It will probably cost more than the original expansions (does anyone know how much it will cost to upgrade if you already have the game?). Honestly, all things considered I would have preferred Sins 2 or an improved version of the original, which lags severely in the late game as it has no multi-core support. Still, I have high hopes!

I think they're working on a patch for multi-core support, it's just taking some time, but I bet we'll see it in Rebellion.

I'm looking forward to this expansion, Diplomacy was a big disappointment in my opinion. Granted, part of that is because I'm more focused on conquering the AI then making friends with them. I like the idea of the new corvette type ships, and the capital ships and titan-classes. I'm a sucker for good looking starships.

Having no campaign mode has never bothered me. With RTS games, if I really like the game, I make up my own stories in my head and play them out with the skirmishes. So to me, when I start up Sins, I think to myself, "What type of story do I want to play today?"

Excellent! Multi-core support alone would make the expansion worth it.

I thought diplomacy wasn't as good as entrenchment. I have other research and ship building priorities in the early game and by the time you pay attention to it there is no longer a real advantage. And I agree, new ships are always a good thing!
Has anyone else played this? I just got the game and it is freaking AWESOME so far.

+1 : It's awesome (new cool factions, ships and technologies, even better graphics),
and there is a 10$ rebate on stardock for anyone which already possess the base game.

On small maps, however, new units such as the Titans come too late to change anything : I'll try bigger maps to see if they can have a bigger impact.
