Are there any fans of classic pixel art? Huh? No one? Oh well.
I like to dabble in pixel art, I would not say I'm that good, but I try. ;) The best I can muster is 8-bit. Anyway, if you have any art then you are more than welcome to share it here, or we can just discus games that you think have great pixel art.

These are some pictures I made for a little side project me n' my brother work on on and off. It's an RPG inspired by classic SNES jrpgs.

Here are some images I made for Daimonin years ago. I expect it was part of some Christmas event. I really enjoyed the game. The players were solid and friendly, and the gamemasters used to summon insane boss-style creatures and send them to attack the central town, and we'd try to fend them off as a team. I'm tempted just thinking about it, but there's no way I can be sucked into an MMORPG at the moment.

Is that an overturned goldfish bowl in the first pic, advanced? I like it.

those are really nice, grimwerk.
I made the custom dolls and sprites for Ultima VI that come with Nuvie. I couldn't play with the generic companion sprites because there was no way to tell them apart from same looking enemies or to tell companions apart who looked the same, like Iolo and Gwenno.

This is some very pretty work! I'm going to keep an eye on this thread.
I'd like to think I'm reasonably competent at pixel art, my only problem is that it takes me really long to do it (not to mention I'm now really out of practice).
The 2nd one is using the EGA palette, and the 3 "sprites" are technically just (relatively) low resolution images, rather than pixel art :D.

Wow, cool. Great work for a great game!
Just how much of the details can you fake and still get something decent in pixel art? As in covering up your inability to draw something well (or at all).

I don't quite understand what you mean.

For example, Mario was 'faked' based on the limitations of the hardware at the time. That gave him his mustache and possibly his overalls. As the pixel art gets more detailed, you're not able to scribble your way out of detail without it looking like crap.

I wanted to know about some "tricks" to balancing lack of detail with something that doesn't look out of place. If you're already a good artist then you probably wouldn't use any "cheats" since you're good at every detail. But it's nice to have shortcuts handy for the rest of us mortals.
