I think eBay is pretty much going the way of the dodo. It's a haven of thieves, crooks and con artists. It's also well known as a fence's paradise. Occasionally as a buyer you'll be able to find the odd good deal, but for PC gamers it's for the most part either bargain bin rubbish being sold at ridiculous prices, used Steam games or older games being sold at absolutely extortionate prices (Final Fantasy 9 - starting price €79).

I find it particular hilarious seeing 12 or 13 auctions for the same game, all of them with "RARE" in the title. Sellers will often create a second account to bid on their own wares, and will elevate the price artificially and bear the cost to avoid too low a price.

Buyers are just as dishonest, but the very anti-seller system these days is all thanks to the den of thieves mentality prevalent among sellers there. I had plenty of problems with revenge feedback until they stopped the buyer feedback system (which is pretty pointless anyway if you're only buying), misadvertised items and - the all time classic - the claim that it's a "private" auction so there's no right to return or guarantee (despite eBay's claims to the contrary)
