This may be a tough one. I'm about to throw away an old dysfunctionnal dvd recorder, with a (seagate) hard drive full of stuff recorded on the tv. I have the (tedious) possibility to try to save everything on dvd-roms, from the machine's own dvd burner. However. For a couple of reasons, it would be much more practical, for me, IF there was a mean to just remove that seagate hard drive from that dvd-recorder, and just plug it onto my computer, and backup its video content from there.

So, the question is, has anybody dealt with that ? Does anyone know anything about dvd recorder's encoding, and how regular computers may decypher them and directly access and use the data that is stored in these dvd recorder's hard drives ?

Just in case, that one happens to be a Toshiba (rd-xv45, even).
