Miaghstir: Then it's not the connector that's the problem (some options are only available for either digital (dvi/hdmi) or analog (vga) connections), I use dvi and have the same options grayed-out.

SirPrimalform: I think the connector is the problem, I've never known a video card support scaling (or centering) for analogue connections. The only way around it that I found was to use a program called Powerstrip to change the display timings to trick the monitor into thinking it's receiving its native resolution.

Speaking of which...

SirPrimalform: What is the native resolution of your monitor by the way?
if with native resolution you mean the "recommended" one and the one I am normally using it is 1920x1200 - I just read on the net that apparently one needs a digital connection for the scaling to work but then Miaghstir says its not working with her/him either
I am sorry I have to leave - thanks for trying to help - perhaps one of you comes up with a brillient idea in my absence - I shall check back tomorrow

The only thing I've found that helps on an analogue connection (what both of us are on) is this:

Which would, logically, be what "use centered timings" does in the AMD control center, no? However, that explains why it's grayed-out for me (since it isn't needed on dvi), but not why the other two options (maintain aspect ratio and scale image to full panel size) also are disabled - both with GPU scaling on and off.

I fully admit I have no idea what's going on with your computer. :P
You're right that Powerstrip is doing exactly what 'centred timings' does. I have no idea why AMD and nvidia can't include that functionality in their own control centres... having to run powerstrip isn't exactly convenient.

I might have accidentally removed that "let let SirPrimalform know exactly what's going on with my computer" application. Sorry bout that, probably thought it was some form of spyware.

To be fair, it was spyware. I mostly used it to keep track of yo- I mean what application?
