TL:DR

It's a rusty cutlass in the heart of a sequel that, otherwise, is progressive in small but welcome ways. The series still lacks a worthwhile identity of its own and is too quick to run away from its piratical setting in favour of more familiar fantasy archetypes, but for surprisingly hefty chunks of Risen 3 I was drawn in and entertained, at least until another clumsily staged battle soured me again. For those who have been able to cut through the clutter and clumsiness of the series so far, this may well be a small hurdle, and you'll discover a commendably deep and full RPG for your trouble. It's just a shame that such a fundamental feature as combat takes the shine off what could have been the sequel to make Risen popular beyond its small audience of devotees.

realkman666: 6 what out of 10 what?
people can't believe it's not butter
So bits I picked out - clumsy combat ( sounds worse), little role playing, bad script and horrible voice acting (bar Bones). Makes u wonder wat sets it apart or even really worth buying?
Wouldn't it be more relevant to gather reviews in a single thread rather than opening one for each review?

That's what I call an understatement.

I played the first two games and really enjoyed them both. So I personally don't believe they screwed up Risen 3 badly enough that I wouldn't enjoy it. If you played the previous games and liked them, from what I can see in various reviews and screenies (as well as descriptions on what was changed from Risen 2), you should have no reason to dislike this one.

If you've not played any of the Risen games, then I don't know what would set it apart for you. I've played tons of CRPGs that have been described as mediocre (or even poor) and enjoyed them. I guess the best thing to do is read more reviews, check out screenies and maybe look at some Let's Plays to see if it appeals to you at all.
I'll probably pick it up later, no doubt in a bundle eventually. What can I say, as an avid fan of Gothic 1 and 2, and maybe of Risen, this brings only the faintest of interests. I'm just not feeling it.
I haven't read the review yet, but didn't Eurogamer give Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Skyrim all 10/10 scores while giving the first two Risen games mediocre scores (can't remember the exact score) and reviews? I don't know, I agree with some Eurogamer reviews but they seem to give certain studios a LOT of leeway in every way possible and give absolutely none to others...

Based on the few reviews I've read, Risen 3 is a step up from Risen 2 and a good bit of fun. Every Gothic/Risen game has certain flaws in common (silly dialogue, not so great voice acting) so that's not unexpected. The real question I have is just how open world is Risen 3?
Codex impressions seem to recognise it as an improvement over Risen 2 which is good enough for me. GAF impressions are pretty good all round. I don't really need to consider reviews from entities that give bethesda "RPGs" 10/10, lol.

People forget that these reviews are nothing more than paid opinions from people just like yourself. They're not objectively accurate and you're putting all of these games through someone who has likes, dislikes, plays favoritism, plays agenda, and is highly opinionated.

There is no credibility in a field like that. You have to take it, and youtube reviews, as simply impressions from <the person doing it>.

For me, my impression of a game like The Darkness 2 was completely incredible, original, and immensely fun. While something nominated for goty like Far Cry 3 gets boring and repetitive even though it has higher production values. So I'd be biased towards creativity, art direction, and innovation over Hollywood cinematics and QTE's. On those gaming sites I would not get very far before being fired. :P

Trust me, I do understand that haha.
