tinyE: I hope this doesn't turn into a thread of mourning. When I heard about his death last night I was sad for a second but then immediately begin thinking of the countless great times I've had watching his performances and his movies, and all I could do was smile in awe and appreciation. Richard lived a full life and his legacy to the film industry is timeless.

The only time I will ever cry regarding Mr. Attenborough will be when I SPOILER ALERT!!! watch the end of The Great Escape.

He really did have it all; chivalry, attitude, AND A SENSE OF HUMOR! :D No offense to another great actor but do you really think Richard Burton would have had the guts or humility to show up in Jurassic Park!?

My hat goes off to you Mr Attenborough; life well lived. :D
Well said. Well said, indeed.

Johnmourby: Lord Attenborough

Sachys: Ah... ?
It seems to be his title. I'm not sure if he was really a lord but he decently was made a peer in 1993. He was often referred to by official news papers as Lord Richard Attenborough.

cw8: I only know him from Jurassic Park sadly. RIP

Hope David Attenborough lives a long good life, I grew up watching his many many documentaries.
considering david attenborough is 88 i think he did
hopefully he will live a few years more

and this thread is both a thread for mourning as well as celebrating the life of a man who left behind an amazing legacy
He gave us some great performances as an actor and some great films as a director.
R.I.P.

Love these films and thank you Johnmourby for reminding me of A Bridge Too Far (forgot he was in that). I echo the sentiments above, especially tinyE. I know next to nothing about the man but watching his performances he's the kind of person that just exuded sincerity and gentleness. Was it all an act? Was it "the method" or skill at creating a certain character? I doubt it - and I love that in watching him only a few times he conveyed to me a wonderful, kind and extremely talented person and not just a role he was playing. THAT'S something special.
