My Microsoft Intelli Mouse Optical 1.1a just died on me. It's the second time that happened with one of these (after several years of use) - both cases it's the cable that eventually gave in ...

So I am on the lookout for a replacement. I really, really like the Intelli Mouse shape / size - it fits my hand well, and I love the two large extra button on either side (back / forward buttons for browser - much quicker than mouse guestures). Hence I replaced like with like, last time.

But - they aren't produced anymore. Still possible to get the one or the other, but at much inflated prices. So I am looking for alternatives - with a roughly similar size / shape. [For reference, if it's any use: Length of 4.97 inches / 126 mm, height 1.54 inches / 39.3 mm ... width doesn't matter quite as much].

Suggestions?
Not sure how well it compares comfort-wise to the Intellimouse, but I love my Logitech MX518. They aren't made anymore either, but its replacement is very similar. I believe it's replaced by the G400.
I used the MX510 (this one is still alive on another computer), MX518 and now the G400. Great mouse, if it dies I'll just get another one like it.

I miss those too. I only have one working one left that travels with my laptop. I replaced my desktop one with this:

I find it very comfortable, but the mouse wheel is a bit strange. I still like it better than any of the logitech's I had tried comfort wise.
Nerd, get the G400.
Just make sure the serial number is greater than 13333 (no mouse acceleration).
I use a logitech 185 now, it's wireless and has .... it's either a 15 foot range or 30 feet. It's nothing special but it works well enough for anything I can do on my laptop.

Edit: By the way, my school has a mouse with side buttons on about a quarter of the computers. They piss me off because I'm always activating them by accident, since, of course, the natural thumb rest is right there on the side and those damn buttons are ultra sensitive.

Razer Imperator.

The only mouse that doesn't break my hand, it seems.
Thanks for all the suggestions, so far :).

Yes, I know. Many people hate them. Probably down to how I hold the mouse. I don't grip just have the hand lying on the mouse and guide it along - thumb and ring finger don't really touch it - so it's just a bit of pressure with either to use the buttons.Plus - intelli ones are pretty big and not very flimsy.
I use a microsoft sidewinder X3, which is about the same size as the intelli one you have, and it also has side buttons. Good weighty mouse that fits the hand very nicely. What's nice is that the side buttons are actually quite hard to hit accidentally due to where they are placed plus they need a fairly decent amount of pressure to activate.

My mouse is from Logitech Deluxe 250 set. I'm amazed by build quality of set that costs <10E, as both keyboard and mouse took quite a beating. They are also quite comfortable too.
