The war of twelve races.

Warlords Battlecry II, a classic RTS game telling the story of an epic struggle between the races of the fantastic world of Etheria, is now available on GOG.com for only $5.99.

Etheria is still at war. The twelve races have been locked in a struggle for centuries and it seems that they will never know peace. They hunger for power and dominion over the land. Some use brutal force and numbers. Others use magic and cunning or even battlefield technology. Each faction has its own strengths and weaknesses, all of which have become well know to the other over the centuries of conflicts. All of them have gathered an unfathomable military power. There's just one thing that seems unachievable: a lasting victory. Are you a leader capable enough to change that?

Warlords Battlecry II delivers a solid RTS experience that any strategy fan is bound to appreciate. With twelve distinct factions to choose from, a hundred and forty units you can control, and sixty seven regions to conquer, this game will keep you busy for many hours. There are even some RPG elements here, as the hero whose role you assume can complete various optional quest, and the units under your command gather experience and level up. If the main campaign is still not enough for you, check out the skirmish mode that delivers endless challenge, or even create your own scenarios in the provided map editor.

Are you craving for classic RTS action in a gritty fantasy setting? Pick up your copy of Warlords Battlecry II, for only $5.99.

roninnogitsune: Does anyone know if this version has a fan patch that ruins spellcasters? I really hated it about 3 and none of the new stuff made up for that stupid patch, they should have fixed bugs and kept the balance stuff minor.
avatar
Sargon: That annoyed me a lot as well. Bug fix patches\mods should be bug fix patches\mods and multiplayer balancing mods should be multiplayer balancing mods.
Summoned creatures just disappeared after a while because the maker of the mod thought they were overpowered. Bah. But the state the game was in before the mod was added was even worse since the random number generator was screwed. The artifacts your hero found was always the same one and spell outcomes were also always the same. GOG did choose the lesser evil by adding the mod to the game.

Thanks to the mod authour for fixing the problem, and no thanks to the makers of Warlords Battlecry 3 (or whoever was responsible) for selling the game in such a horrible state. (The people who bought it from Impulse and Steam were not as lucky as us.)

Anyway Ronninogitsune I have the solution to your problem. The mod author realized that not everyone wanted the balance changes so he posted a depatch to fix it!

(This thread should get stickied on the Warlords Battlecry GOG forum since many have complained about the changes to the original game.)
sadly the link to the fix isn't working anymore.

mondo84: Warlords!!!

I'm hoping one day we get Warlords III: Reign of Heroes. That game was awesome.

Great job, GOG!
avatar
Sargon: Ah yes! I hope we do get Warlords 2 and Warlords III: Reign of Heroes + Warlords III: Warlords Rising one day. I only played the demo of Warlords III back in the day and I remember not liking it because there were no tactical battles :-)
Thanks for the reply though the link to the depatch is broken. Still I find that WB2 a better game and was released in a working state when I bought it a long time ago, so I'm guessing it doesn't have a fan patch that ruins spellcasting.

Ghorpm: Thanks a lot! I'm perfectly fine with old visuals so I guess the remake is not for me.

Sargon: Why go for some generic 3D graphics that looks like everything else when you can enjoy the beautiful 2D art in Settlers 2?
My thoughts exactly!

Sargon: I just wish that those f*** birds would shut up! There is something wrong with the birds in my GOG Settlers 2 game. They chirp on and on and on like a cacophony. I swear it wasn't like this when the game was new.
My thoughts... oh, wait. This time I cannot use the word "exactly" at least not any more. The first time I played the GOG version I had the same feeling as you. But I've checked it and alas it's the same in the old version. Check out this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wkt1NrCWluk and note it's the "Veni, Vidi, Vici" version, not Gold and birds are making this infernal sound as well.

THE HORROR....

Is it possible to remove the sound by removing / replacing some audio file with a blank one? or you have to mute the audio to play without this.....?

Ah thanks. I think I had the Gold version, either that or I was more tolerant of infernal sounds :-) Well it is not a Dosbox setting then. I still have the old CD somewhere, I think I will go for that the next time I feel like playing Settlers 2.

Pheace: sadly the link to the fix isn't working anymore.
Oh. Is still have the file that I downloaded. I can upload it if someone knows a place where is will stay up for a while. Preferable without me having to accept some unknown javascripts.

I checked your video Ghorpm. Top comment: "Fucking birds need to shut the fuck up..god!" I guess we are not alone...

I really dislike audio problems in old games. I pray to the Demiurge that the Soundblaster standard will last a long time. It probably will, since most people don't care that much for audio except music.

(This is about Settlers 2, not Warlords Battlecry 2, nothing wrong with that as far as I'm aware)

Ubivis: Can anyone reupload the fix? Link doesn't work anymore.
Here is the fix for Warlords Battlecry 3:
https://hotfile.com/dl/179387667/e14b9c8/authors_fix.zip.html

It takes away all the balance changes like summoned units only lasting for a short while and leaves the game like the developers made it except for the bugs being fixed. It also adds some support for mods and add some new portraits which is not of the same style as in the game. I think you can just skip the step about overwriting the portraits file and you will not get any additional portraits.

I've scanned the file with my Anti-Virus scanner but it is a bit outdated so feel free to do so yourself too.

It will stay active for 90 days after the last download. If someone knows about a more permanent home for it, just post it. Otherwise, if you find that the link is unavailable, send me a PM.

Does skydrive let people download from it without installing any additional software? If so, please do. Otherwise i made a hotfile link available. It will only stay alive for 90 days after the last download though.

Feel free to try it yourself. You shouldn't have any problems downloading it, but do tell me if there's any problems.
