The secret life of the Red Planet.

Waking Mars, an original platform game that focuses on free-form jetpack-aided exploration of the Martian underground, is now available 50% off on GOG.com. That's only $4.99 for a whole week!

For all we know, the life that we know didn't start here, on Earth. One of the theories says that the spark that kick-started the evolution in the primordial ocean came from outer space and it points to our nearest neighbor as its probable source. Mars wasn't necessarily always covered with arid deserts and infertile rock. Unmanned missions, like the one carried out by Curiosity Mars Rover, gather more and more proof that the surface of the Red Planet used to be blue, green, and very much alive. Life on Mars. Maybe it's not entirely gone? Maybe someday humans will touch the red dust with their own feet and feel a pulse coming deep from the underground--a sign, that Mars is waking.

In Waking Mars the fantasy of living Mars becomes your reality. However, not everything goes as planned with the first contact expedition, and you become trapped in the giant underground system of caves and corridors. Using your space-suit's jetpack you have to explore your surroundings, learn the dependencies of the Martian ecosystem, and figure out how to use the alien creatures and plants in your advantage. Your survival depends on your ability to adapt, in this unique game filled with eerie beauty and unknown danger. On GOG.com, the game comes with a bonus MP3 soundtrack filled with many great electronica tunes guaranteed to bring high-quality Sci-Fi ambiance into your day.

So, what are you still doing here on Earth? Shouldn't you be Waking Mars by now, for only $4.99 on GOG.com? The offer lasts until Tuesday, March 12, at 10:59AM GMT.
Is there a demo out there for this?
Doesn't look that special or interesting to be honest, maybe I'll pick it up later for a cheap price someday

ZivilSword: What’s it with the release date on the game card set to March 5th 2013? The game is some months older and the Win, Mac and Linux versions exist since November 8th 2012 (Humble Bundle for Android 4), or since December 5th as an unlimited offer on Desura.

Seems like GOG tries to advertise this as a brand new game which it isn’t! I don’t like this way …
Thanks for the heads up. Fixed now!

We weren't intending to advertise it as a brand new game
Since I've watched Total Biscuit's "WTF Is - Walking Mars", this game made me quite intrigued, glad to see it here.

MichiGen: The same thing is doing STEAM for a long time already.
Yes, but that’s Steam. It’s like you compared a restaurant with McDonald’s. (Though, Tomb Raider is cheaper in the restaurant erm I mean on GOG^^) Because here I have hopes that such a thing will not be used to trick customers, or that a mistake is corrected without much ado.

Aaaand there it is:

Thank you, that was fast. :)

Qwertyman: Ugh, yet another platformer. I really like the graphical style of this game - quite a bit, actually - but I have been sick of platformers for a very long time. If you grew up playing games in the 80's, then platformers occupied like 90% of your gaming experiences for 10+ years. Ah well, appreciate weekly releases regardless.

amok: It is not really much of a platformer. The point of the game is balancing biomasses in each cave, so it is much more of an puzzle/adventure game than a platformer. It just have a side-on 2D view.
Well that's good to hear. Perhaps I'll end up checking this one out, then.
Seems interesting, there's a Linux version even...
... not here, unfortunately
WTF Is... Waking Mars?
This might help you decide, I must say that it looks really interesting.
Although the graphics style reminds me of "And yet it moves" game.
Wishlisted...
Excellent release. Already got the game, but it can't hurt to have it in my GoG library ;).

That surely was interesting. It's really great to see how you those different life forms intereact with each other (and with you :D).

This looks like a Metroidvania type game, is that about right?
I'm really not into platformers, but based on the screenshots I love the visuals this game has. Might pick it up someday.
How quaint. A science fiction game that is actually about science and not lazor guns.
