The final chapter in the legend of the Avatar.

Ultima 9: Ascension, the memorable final installment of world's first cRPG saga, that entertained generations of gamers, is now available on GOG.com for only $5.99.

You fought wizards, monsters, and demonic computers in the Age of Darkness. You sought truth, love, and courage to become the champion of the eight virtues in the Age of Enlightenment. The Age of Armageddon sent you on a journey through the Black Gate, onto the Serpent Isle, and into exile to the dark, twisted otherworld of Pagan. Now you are summoned to defend Britannia for the final time and free it from the corrupting influence of the fiendish Guardian. You will answer this call, as you did so many times before, for you are the Avatar, and this is the time of your ascension.

Ultima 9: Ascension concludes the saga envisioned by Richard Garriot in 1981 and continued over the next 18 years. For the first time you can explore the land of Britannia in full 3D and experience one of the most exceptional and colorful gameworlds ever created. Hundreds of pages of script went into producing the final Ultima's story, a story that brings a closure to the journey of the Avatar. A journey every RPG gamer should experience in full for him- or herself.

Answer the call of Brittania for the final time and let yourself be consumed by the world of
Ultima 9: Ascension for only $5.99 on GOG.com.

JudasIscariot: The soundtrack for Blood was always there. I just polished it and the file names up a bit. I hope the quality is to your liking :D

ZapMcRaygunn: Absolutely, the quality is fantastic and the music is quite atmospheric. I am enjoying it.
Thanks again!
Awesome! All I can say is: Enjoy! :D
If you are on the fence about this one - don't be. Everything bad youve heard about Ultima 9 has been resolved. This is a ground-breaking game when you consider it was released in 1999. Everything that we take for granted in modern RPG's (and even more I wish we still had) is all here in U9. Sure, when this game first came out (I still have the huge box edition) it was unplayable. But with subsequent patching - it was polished into a rare and exquisite gem. Ultima 9 had depth, sophistication, full dialouge audio (cheezy but classic), incredible music, beautiful vistas - night and day cycle - variable weather - different terrains - puzzles, quests... if you've ever played the GOTHIC series - Ultima 9 is like Gothic Zero. If you're new to U9, you might feel like you've just discovered GOTHIC's lost ancestor. This also plays like an early ELDER SCROLLS game - not quite like Daggerfall but more like a proto-typical OBLIVION with the Columns standing in for the Oblivion Gates. Ultima 9 set the mold that we all know and love today in CFRPG's... it should be remembered and honored and played by new generations.
Thanks to gog.com for this release! :D

Shure it was never a real Ultima, but i like it really much because ist was one of the first "open world" Games ever.

I hope the game will get back to live

tanks to the Patch 1.19H and the R3 Project!

Great post, anaibendai.

Those are exactly my thoughts about Ultima IX. In fact, it's my favourite Ultima and it was the game that made me play other games in the series. After finishing Ultima IV, VIII, and Ultima Underworld I, I can say that they are all great games, but IX is definitely my favourite.

Maybe it's due to the fact that it has such an immersive adventuring element, fantastic exploration and puzzles, and great atmosphere and music.

Ultima IX is a vastly underrated classic, and should be enjoyed by every one.

Personally the worse about U9 was not on the technical part, the awful dubbing, the plot that makes no sense neither as an Ultima game nor as a standalone one, the annoying characters (even worse for you old friends or companions that have now become total morons), boring quests, etc... sadly there is no patch for that yet.

Actually Ultima VII beat it to the punch as one of the first open world RPGs by 9 or so years..

It was also beaten by the elder scrolls, might and magic, fallout, etc...
