The Master Thief is back--you never saw that coming!

No, really. You literally did not see that coming.

Thief: Deadly Shadows, the ultimate tension-fueled stealth experience, is available on GOG.com for $9.99 with the soundtrack, design sketches, avatars, wallpapers, and the manual all included!

GOG.com is incredibly happy to complete the most acclaimed and loved PC stealth series ever developed--the Thief series. [url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/thief_gold]Thief Gold and Thief II: The Metal Age have been both voted 5-star-perfect games by our community (thanks for the votes!) and Thief: Deadly Shadows is a strong contender for yet another entry on your “best of the best” lists. The third installment, a worthy and mighty successor, does not change what’s exceptional about Garrett’s adventure--stealth-based gameplay that uses silence and shadows as your main weapons--but it does add a few twists, like seeing Garrett’s limbs from first-person perspective, non-linear exploration of the City and secondary missions, Wall Climbing Gloves, a variety of gameplay (Break & Enter, Steal, Combat, Ambush and Assassinate), and, what’s best, an improved AI that will now seek and hear you more easily, track evidence, and even chase and fight you to the end.

Thief: Deadly Shadows has been especially praised for its exceptionally refined standard of lighting, graphics, level design, and--of course--immersive gameplay. Sound effects, music, and voice acting are top-notch, and the game looks and feels better than ever with a dynamic lighting and shadow system, and the possibility to switch between first person and third person mode. The story, the dark and tense atmosphere, the visual appearance, the thrill--everything you wished for in a 3D sneaker is here. There’s only one thing no one should see--it’s Garrett, hidden in deadly shadows.

Thief: Deadly Shadows is a gaming ambush that will steal your free time and assassinate your desire for playing other games. You don’t have to break & enter to grab this gem from GOG.com for only $9.99.
I own this game on Disc, but that version suffers from massive graphics errors.. Normally this would be an instabuy for me, my Darkstone experience has made me wary.
Can anyone confirm that this works on a WinXP32 Bit/ nVidia setup or better still Linux Wine/ nVidia?

The weakest of the three for sure, but still leagues above its peers.
I've been hoping this would drop here... And its my birthday in a few weeks too. Perfect timing GOG.com you rock!

Neat, nice to have the real Thief game here finally. Those old timey PC only ones look terrible.

...please tell me you're being sarcastic.
Just to clarify for those not familiar: Just because it's the worst in the series doesn't mean it's not worth playing. It's like saying a Lamborghini is a worse car than a Ferrari.

Text blinking fast or even invisble text in the setup (WinXP32 SP3, nVidia 9600 GT).
This makes the game unplayable, because you cannot even choose a character to play with. For further details, check the community thread on Darkstone: "menu flickers and ingame graphics distorted"

IMO Thief II: Metal Age by far. There's almost no zombies (compared to the ridiculous amounts in the first one) and I prefer the cutscenes and story to third. Also you have the sword in there which is really nice when compared to the flimsy dagger you get in Deadly Shadows. DS isn't bad and I like some parts in it, but for some reason the levels feel more tunnel-like in it. Thief II had bigger and more open-ended levels. Also the controls feel a bit awkward in DS. Bit of a ragtag answer, sorry.

All good. But i like 2 more of all.
Wonderful! I agree that, while it wasn't as good as the first two, it is still definitely worth playing. It was Thief-y enough to make me happy!

Oh, and the Cradle, the CRADLE!!!

To answer the question, I liked The Metal Age the best. More thievery, more City, more fun. Plus, the T2X mod is an absolute MUST-HAVE.

Tarhiel: You should play them chronologically, they´re story-centered.
Developers intended it that way, because they´re not recapitulating anything at the beginning of the T2 . Same goes for T3.
Personally I only played T1 (didn't beat it but got pretty far) and then T3 and I can't say that I got the feeling I was missing a lot of information this way. To me T3 felt like a new chapter in the same universe that everybody can enjoy, no matter whether he knows the previous events or not. I guess that may be the reason why the games didn't start with a recap.

For what its worth i feel that Thief 2 is the best of the 3... its just so well done, and you dont "really" need to have played the first one to get it... i <3 T2 the most...

Well, if you would play them chronologically, you would know T3 is the climax of the story. The reason behind why you didn´t feel like lacking an important info might be given by the fact, that they envisioned T3 as a standalone game (since it was the first game of the franchise made also on consoles, they didn´t want players to feel lost in the story - the very same reason why they didn´t put number "3" in the name of the game, as to not put off potential console customers, who didn´t played previous titles), even though it being the conclusion of the whole story. These changes, alongside with quirks of the engine+ limitations of consoles of those days contributed to the fact, that T3 is not as popular as first two parts amongst majority of the fans. Even though I think when it comes to the story, T3 is on par with previous games.
