Micromanagement heaven!

The Settlers 3: Ultimate Collection, an all-time favorite civilization-building strategy bundled with the Quest of Amazons and Mission CD add-ons, is available on GOG.com, for only $9.99

Only a true regent will recognize this sound. It's a little like the ticking of a clockwork mechanism, with all the cogs and sprockets placed carefully, but firmly, in their places. Or like the humming of the bees, flying about in a seemingly chaotic manner but unified by a common purpose ever-present in their hive-mind. There's also a hint of children's laughter and a distant sound of farm animals. A distinctive note of golden coins jingling against each other in the treasury. Finally, an ominous, almost inaudible distant uproar of armed men gathering near the borders. All this, in a perfect unison, is the sound of a living kingdom, and can only be heard from the top of the highest tower of the royal castle. You know this sound quite well, don't you?

In The Settlers 3: Ultimate Collection your goal is to lead a nation to power and glory and your work begins at the very basics. There are many factors and details you need to take into account while you try to establish a working economy and provide your tiny subjects with a superb infrastructure that will allow the state to flourish. The third installment of this cult series no longer requires you to build roads and gives you direct control over your military units. This makes the gameplay a little bit different, but just one look at your tiny loyal settlers going about their tasks and building all those nice little structures will make you feel right at home. The Ultimate Collection comes with the Quest of the Amazons expansion and the Mission CD add-on.

Become the regent supreme and indulge in all the joys of royal micromanagment in The Settlers 3: Ultimate Collection, for only $9.99 on GOG.com.

ZivilSword: I remembered that Settlers 3 was released in 1998 or 1999, and Wikipedia confirms this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Settlers_III
But the Ultimate Collection was released in 2000, no?

P1na: I never tried 3. How does it compare to 2?
The most major changes are getting rid of road network and allowing direct control over military units.
It became more dynamic but less complex in city planning since your carriers deliver goods from anywhere to anywhere door-to-door and no traffic jams form. That being said you still want to place industry chains close so it doesn't take forever.

Not necessarily. The German „Gold Edition” was released 1999 (but I can’t find any exact date), and I don’t think the English version had to be translated more than half a year …

But anyway, as GOG published the English version only, it doesn’t really matter (and I’m not interested in buying this for such a thoroughly German game in gamestyle and humor) …
I remember this game I still have a "backup" somewhere I should play this again but somehow I feel I need to play settlers 1 and 2 first.... even though I've played a fair bit of 3 hmm.

I remember being very pleased that this game would run on my 2mb S3 Trio

Still have my original CDs of this. Never did have much luck with it running correctly. Still tempted to try with this version, but you know what I'd pay good money for? A complete release of Settler's 4. I'd even throw $20 at that I want it so much.

I think that's just a matter of time.
OMG , the best game in the settlers series according to me , i just loved how simple gameplay and awesome the graphics were in this , well done the latter games in the series went opposite ways regarding gameplay and graphics

Fred_DM: the most German game ever made, and GOG offers it in English only...
No Bluebyte-game is offered with German localisation, so why are people expecting Settlers 3 to be offered in German?
I just downloaded and installed the game but once I start it up and select 'campaign' it asks me to enter the CD Key? Did I miss something?

EDIT: restarted computer and seems to work now... weird!

I'm so excited that you're releasing more Settlers games! If 1 and 4 end up here as well I will be a very happy bunny. :)
I remember playing this when I was a kid... I found it frustrating then. Let's see if it's still true. I'm buying this for nostalgia reasons.

Thanks for the explanation

Commandos: Behind enemy lines is also in English only. It sucks when games don't have their original version, does it not? Specially when you used to play that original version and it's that dubs that brings back nostalgia.

Remember enjoying playing this back when it was first released. Never got a chance to complete it as got nicked along with all my other games.

Hopefully it will be as good as I remember.

Commandos is a different story, though. it was made by a Spanish developer, but primarily for an English-speaking market.

The Settlers games are thoroughly German games made by Germans primarily for Germans. they never had much of a following outside German-speaking Europe, and certainly not in English-speaking regions.

Well, most of my friends have played settlers (namely 2). I also dare you to find a single Spanish-speaking person who doesn't love the Spanish voices in Commandos, or even cares about who played the game abroad. And I can name you several people who won't play the GOG version, even when gifted by me, because it's only in English.

Target market be damned, when the OV is the one you originally played you'll certainly miss it if you can not get it on the re-release. OV is superior 95% of the time, and if you couple that to the nostalgia factor it's unbeatable.
