Micromanagement heaven!

The Settlers 3: Ultimate Collection, an all-time favorite civilization-building strategy bundled with the Quest of Amazons and Mission CD add-ons, is available on GOG.com, for only $9.99

Only a true regent will recognize this sound. It's a little like the ticking of a clockwork mechanism, with all the cogs and sprockets placed carefully, but firmly, in their places. Or like the humming of the bees, flying about in a seemingly chaotic manner but unified by a common purpose ever-present in their hive-mind. There's also a hint of children's laughter and a distant sound of farm animals. A distinctive note of golden coins jingling against each other in the treasury. Finally, an ominous, almost inaudible distant uproar of armed men gathering near the borders. All this, in a perfect unison, is the sound of a living kingdom, and can only be heard from the top of the highest tower of the royal castle. You know this sound quite well, don't you?

In The Settlers 3: Ultimate Collection your goal is to lead a nation to power and glory and your work begins at the very basics. There are many factors and details you need to take into account while you try to establish a working economy and provide your tiny subjects with a superb infrastructure that will allow the state to flourish. The third installment of this cult series no longer requires you to build roads and gives you direct control over your military units. This makes the gameplay a little bit different, but just one look at your tiny loyal settlers going about their tasks and building all those nice little structures will make you feel right at home. The Ultimate Collection comes with the Quest of the Amazons expansion and the Mission CD add-on.

Become the regent supreme and indulge in all the joys of royal micromanagment in The Settlers 3: Ultimate Collection, for only $9.99 on GOG.com.

ZivilSword: Three words: Not in German. :(
The devs are German, the game was a huge success in Germany, and now this.

I hope you all get pigs in your iron melting facility.
Was that not how it is supposed to be?
Just kidding. :-)

Yea, never had copy protection issues, even when emulating the CDs years later. I remember buying the stuff right when it came out, and the base game was a christmas gift. Barely played anything that much, well, the Might & Magic Series (with Heroes spinoff series), Realms of Arkania, some 4X, managers (Pizza Tycoon!) and city builders, but that was it.

Oh, and shareware stuff. :-)

I remember when I got into Settlers 3 it seemed so hard, impossible, the computer always attacked after a few minutes when I had not even any soldiers up. I think that was fixed with patches later. Or maybe I just became better at the game. And then it was effing enjoyable, with the exception of a few addon missions.

tfishell: Are you guys going to spend the whole thread arguing with each other? (G-Doc and TET)

JMich: No they won't!
I can accept that given the fact that you aren't from the UK. ;-)

EDIT: I do have another question for the blues: where is the original Settlers? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Settlers_%28video_game%29 (It may not be anything super special, but it would get closer to completing the series and you could bring it for 3.99 or so.)

I also have a cool story about that. Cheated the last level in, built up the base city and let it run and posted a note to my mother that she saves and quits when she comes home. She didn't, but when I woke up I had lots and lots of swords and shields. Cue me building an army and conquering everything in an epic battle.
Settlers 3 AND Severance: Blade of Darkness released on the very same day?
"It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas"...
Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
I never liked Settlers 3. The fact that they chose to remake Settlers 2 specifically tells me that I'm not alone in this.

Protoss: Only yesterday I talked with some guy about how awesome this game was. And today it is on GOG!

I have it here, but will grab it AGAIN on a sale, just to play without CD emulation. :-)
please talk about how great LucasArts games are next Wednesday...
I never tried 3. How does it compare to 2?
Awesome!

Second is better, to be honest... the best version of them all is S2 - 10'th ann.

I still like this one also, though, but in the eyes of many - this was the start of the decline of the series.

However, I can hartfully recommend this one also, but if you have not played any other Settlers game, then it is not the one I would say you should start with.

Settlers 2 10th Anniversary Edition is the best game remake ever done, in my opinion. It changed the interface elements that didn't work properly, kept the ones that did, and updated the engine and graphics to modern technology, while staying completely true to the original visual design. In a nutshell, it improved everything that needed improving, and left everything else the hell alone. That's how it's done!
the most German game ever made, and GOG offers it in English only...
@GOG Team

I remembered that Settlers 3 was released in 1998 or 1999, and Wikipedia confirms this:

Mind if you change the release date to something around end of 1998? Thanks.
What took you so long, GOG? :D Amazing release, thanks
