From the early 1990s straight to your collection!

The Hugo Trilogy, a three-part classic point and click mystery adventure game series from the early 1990s, is available for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux on GOG.com for $5.99.

Take Hugo through an animated "classic" style adventure, solving puzzles, finding hidden objects and outwitting the maniac hosts of the haunted house to rescue Hugo's sweetheart Penelope. Use the intuitive point & click mouse interface to move around and get Hugo to do your bidding. Just look at what's in store: a vicious dog, a mad professor, hidden passages, vampire bats and much more, all in a gloriously colorful animated cartoon style. And that's just the first game! In games two and three, take part in a huge mystery whodunit (with a few surprise twists and plenty of red-herrings) in an English country cottage and race to save Penelope's life after she is bitten by a vicious tree spider in an Amazonian jungle adventure.

The Hugo Trilogy includes all three games in the classic series: Hugo's House of Horrors, Hugo II: Whodunit? and Hugo III: Jungle of Doom! Gather clues, solve mysteries, and rescue your sweetheart, Penelope, in this classic parser-based adventure game. The version offered here features an intuitive point & click mouse interface in addition to the command line interface of the original version.

If you're an avid adventure gamer curious about the genre's roots make sure to pick up the oldie but goodie Hugo Trilogy for $5.99 on GOG.com.
I remember playing those games a long time ago. I won't buy them as it doesn't seem they aged very well.

Nice release though :)
Can anyone tell me if these games are set up with Scummvm or Dosbox?

ScummVM :)
Happy to see the author FINALLY gave in and decided to release his games with Scummvm so 64bit Windows, Linux, & Mac can now play 'out of the box', though he still sells his versions on his site for $10. The ScummVm project has brought new life to so many old games; helping both the original designers and new & old fans alike, Always glad to see more games taking advantage. (If you want to support ScummVm when buying this, they have a GOG affiliate link on their site )

Just so everyone knows, the guy who made this (David Gray) was pretty impressive. He programmed everything on the 1st game from scratch (engine, parser, compression, art, etc) and uploaded it to a Compuserve forum. Self publishing was much more difficult back then. He is an real 'Indie Game' designer. By the 3rd game, he has professional artists doing the backgrounds, but still did most of the work himself. If you got a moment, his wikipedia page lists 3 interviews well worth reading.

BTW, I think Nightmare 3d (which also uses it's own engine, not Wolfenstein's) is still banned in Germany? Does anyone else know if this is still true?

Thanks to GOG for continuing it's devotion to old games
What an awesome artifact from adventure gaming history. Thanks for this GOG.com.
I'm actually surprised to find out these games were popular enough to warrant a place on GOG.com, but it's nice to see them here for nostalgia's sake. Oddly enough, only a week ago I cracked open my old copy of Windows XP in order to play through the 16-bit version of the first game for the first time in my life. The next day, it's released on GOG.com!

I know that ScummVM is tailored specifically for old adventure games, but that about all I know. What are the advantages of ScummVM over DOSBox?

ScummVM let's you play the games via point-and-click and keyboard commands whereas the DOS version lacks the P-n-C feature :)
Well that does make an important difference, thanks for the info!
I downloaded the Mac version - there seems to be a bug where hugo went into the scientist's machine and now he's permanently shrunk and walking around the house... looks like when igor pressed the first button, it didn't shrink him. Might wanna take a look at that, haha.
For people who were disappointed that it wasn't a game from Hugo the 90's TV show, there is in fact an official Hugo game which got ported to Android, Hugo Retro Mania :
