Immoli: Warning to anyone interested in this. The dev is actively censoring his game for SJWs.
avatar
thelovebat: How has it been censored? Did the game get a recent update that changed the dialogue or something like item descriptions, character names, NPC chatter, etc.? Or was it a case of SJWs finding one particular thing in the game offensive and the dev changing it?
An entire area of the game was removed. Has caused balance issues for the game. It got censored out after SJWs threatened to get it removed from Steam (I doubt they'd have been able to though). Up till then they just constantly insulted the dev and called him a bad person.

And this was awhile ago. Who knows that the dev proactively censored in order to avoid another shitstorm. The amount of influence these people have is sad.

BadDecissions: "Censorship" that you can turn off in the boot menu. Even by the inglorious standards of people whining about social justice warriors, this is incredibly silly.

edit: but to explicitly answer your question, it was a nipple that got covered up.
Stop lying and fuck off, SJW.

Oh yeh, the breeding pit. I'd forgotten about that "controversy." Good. The game is better without it.

(Every time someone calls me a "social justice warrior," I get a warm glow. Almost like social justice, and considering the feelings of others, is a good thing...)

edit: Both Immoli and myself have made out opinions about this clear enough. If anybody actually cared enough about this to want to look into it, the thread where the removal of the breeding pits is ultimately announced can be found here.

So SJWs threatened an indie dev so that he deleted a region which they think is not appropriate to their moral standards, ethic values. In a game with graphics like in the attchment.

But this AAA game did not get the attention?

SJWs should go back watching the walking dead or watch the next blockbuster action movie or whatever SJWs do with their free time.

I included the thread where people complained and a decission was announced. A grand total of one person said something about contacting Steam. You would have to show some evidence that these threats happened before I started worrying about them.

Read the thread I linked to again. Do you really not understand that people were not complaining about violence?

(You missed a trick, by the way, because a AAA game did do something like this; Dragon Age, with its Brood Mothers. I wasn't a fan of that, either, if you were wondering.)

The people that are unable to deal with modernity and current western values are beginning to make this forum very tedious. How many goddamned threads do you need to spout this shit in?

A mute button would be nice. Our less tolerant members could just block the womenz, the gayz, the Jewz, or whoever else they can't make room for in their lives.

Ok, I connected your post with the post of Immoli above:
"It got censored out after SJWs threatened to get it removed from Steam (I doubt they'd have been able to though). Up till then they just constantly insulted the dev and called him a bad person. "

So it was more like a community decision, at least at sounds like that in the forum.

I don't want to make a definite statement, because the OP of the thread I linked to linked to the Something Awful forum, which I can't read without a membership. And of course there might have been private emails. But it looks too me like what happened was this.

1. The area in question was added relatively later in the game development
2. There weren't any content warnings, and roguilikes are usually pretty "harmless," content-wise, so some players were pretty taken aback when they got to this area, and were met with what they perceived as graphically sexualized violence.
3. Someone apparently brought this up on Something Awful.
4. Someone else made a thread about it, which you can read. Some posts are a little heated (it's a heated topic), but I think people on both sides of the debate basically behaved OK. One person threatened to tell Steam on him, which was silly.
5. There was a big discussion of the various questions involved, including several suggestions about how the area might be changed to accommodate everyone (the thread title is not a request to remove the area), but
6. the dev made the decision to completely remove it.

I was kind of taken aback by what happened in this thread, because I thought I was supporting the dev against someone who seemed to be suggesting that he caved to the "SJWs," and therefore we shouldn't buy his game. But if anyone's gotten the wrong impression of me, it's my own stupid fault for replaying a post accusing people of harassment with "Good. The game is better off without it." So let me clarify, that I don't support anybody harassing anybody, no matter whose "side" they're on. I was only dismissive like that because it doesn't seem to me that that's what happened.

Speaking as someone who would no doubt be labelled an "SJW" by many here, I always find that choice of words puzzling. As if social justice (or even the concept of social justice) is a bad thing?

That being said, I think people can easily overreact about such nonsense like an exposed nipple (assuming that the dispute actually was about an exposed nipple), and in cases like that, it's best to just ignore them.

To get back on topic, I've been really enjoying this game -- a lot more than I thought I would, and the responsiveness of the developer easily grants them kudos points in my book. The addictiveness of this game can't be understated; right now it's up there with Master of Magic and Din's Curse in terms of addictiveness, and that makes this game a definite winner for me.

The only hiccup I have is that performance seems to be laggy, even after I've turned off volumetric shading. I've also turned off the fancy UI options) If there are any other things I could do to boost performance, I'd like to know...

I remember seeing a setting somewhere in the options that lets you change how long animations play for. If I remember correctly, it stated that increasing the length will make things move slower, but you can already essentially "queue" up your next move, the animation will play out straight after, i.e. if you press move twice, your character should move twice, even if the animation for the first one isn't finished yet.

Maybe try and play with those settings and see if it makes a difference for you.

Edit: The setting is under Game Options > UI > Smooth Creature Movement. The default of 3 is pretty smooth on my system, but if I increase it, it starts to feel "laggy". Try lowering it and see if it works better for you.

darkgod: Hi in there, I'm the creator of this game.

I am sorry for the uproar the item's vault seems to be causing.
The very nature of it means it needs a server since it stores your items online.

However since it seems to (understandably) be a nuisance for some people I have spent the night altering the vault code to make an offline mode possible and seem to have succeeded.
A caveats I should mention, though it's rather obvious, items in the offline vault will not be shared between computers, as I am no magician and cant do computer telepathy :)

I have uploaded the builds and sent a mail to my GoG contact to update the downloads ASAP, but since it is now nearly 4 AM I rather doubt they will do it instantly :)

I am sorry for the distress this may have caused to some people and I hope this will please them so we can all live in a fluffy place. I make games for fun, both yours and mine so your feedback and happiness is something I value.

As for now, I must get up in 4 hours so I'd say I'm well past sleepy time, see ya in Eyal!

PS: I'll try to post here again when GoG confirms that the build is updated so you can re-grab it and enjoy the new offline vault :)
That is serious customer service! I have the paid version of the game on Desura, will the patch be coming my way too?
Just got an e-mail from te4.org(!) about Ashes of Urh'Rok's release...but it makes no mention of le GOG, only Water Vapor (and te4, of course). :'(

Maybe it was an older email? I know DarkGod has been advertising the GOG release on te4.org and on their Facebook page. :)
