RetiredBard: I have a question that I don't believe has been addressed so far - how is mod support looking for the GoG version?

I don't have any experience so far with GoG purchases of games that have Steam Workshop support over there, so I'm curious about accessibility and user-friendliness of mods for games purchased here - in general and of course, specifically for SG2.
Official LGM statement:

The way mods work within the game is exactly the same in any version. Since Steam was the first to arrive, and it has the Workshop, Steam users have it easier since the Stema client does the download of the mods into appropriate folder. Only this step has to be done manually. When you find a mod (*.sgm file extension), simply copy the file into GameRoot\Mods folder. Then from within the game, access the Mods section, select a mod on the list and click INSTALL. After that, tick the little checkbox beside the mod name in the list and RESTART THE GAME to make sure everything loads in as it should.

Sharing of mods, unfortunately is not done in any way by LGM. We simply lack the server infrastructure for that. That is left to the community. Steam version uses Steam Workshop servers. Other sites will have to be used to share mods for other game versions like GoG.

Matruchus: I saw in steam forums where developers said that there were a few people who got it running on Vista + SP2 but there are no quarantees that it could work on any particular Vista installation. Vista + SP1 does not work 100% as stated by the developers.

musteriuz: Thanks for your reply, friend. De-wishlisted.
It is a DirectX 11 game and some versions will work on Vista but some don't. That's an honest answer. XP is totally out of the question since it's DirectX 9.

Thanks for your reply directing people interested to the subforums. Unless I own a game and pop in to ask questions, it's an odd memory block of mine that I ALWAYS forget about them ;)

I know it would be a nightmare, but I'd love it if GoG hosted mods. Not even a large number, just some of the "big" mods for the big games. Logistically, the QA, updating and hunting for them would be a chore and a half though. Not to mention support. But I wouldn't mind a "reduced support" zone for mod downloads, as long as I knew they were safe and secure. Though it is a nice feature of GoG to point me to certain mods that I know are safe (the Mod Spotlights) because I can trust GoG not to direct me to some shady or virus laden download LOL. On the bright side, I usually don't use them but the prospect of eventually playing something like this in a Star Destroy or Dderidex (sp?) is very tempting!

I know about ModDD (is that what it's called?) but I like the idea of just being able to use my GoG account to pull them.
Looks very nice. I still have to finish Nexus: The Jupiter Incident and Star Wolves, both of which I love.

Wishlisted.

If you will have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. :)
Enjoy, captain.

Now that you gently offered to help, let me ask you something: I wonder whether the player is always the captain of a single ship, or there is other stuff to do? (I know that you can be a sort of commodore by hiring companion ships).

I mean, can you become the owner of other ships besides the one you command, for example traders that you set on fixed routes for profit, or the owner of shore-side businesses?
Out of curiousity does the manual come with the GOG version (if not why not add it as a bonus)? (i assume it is kinda required reading?)

You are always in command of your own ship. You can get big carriers that have up to three fighter/bomber/interceptor wings and you can hire 2 mercenaries that will follow you and aid you. For now. But there are plans to increase number of mercenaries.

Also, for now you can't put NPC crew into captured or bought ships, but community suggested it and devs are thinking abou it if I'm not mistaken. :)

The manual is available on that link, but you don't get it in PDF even in Steam version. Then again, nothing forbids you to save it on your drive as PDF. :)

I can ask devs, not sure if they can just copy paste it in free stuff.

I know its a small thing (thank you) but it would be great if the manual could be included into the GOG version (probably not best practice to link to Steam stuff for a release on here.....) :)

I have sent them an e-mail, will see if they'll be able to squeeze it in here. :)

Thanks for your answer. I thought I read somewhere that the player can buy stations, or some structures in the stations. I guess it is not the case.
Ugh. Decision time to get this or not since the discount is going going soon ...
Watch some youtube gameplay videos, read some reviews and check FAQ on this forum. Don't rush into buying, I would be sad if you were dissapointed with the game. I'm not, but still...
