The Chemistry-Based Spiritual Successor to The Incredible Machine.

SpaceChem, a brain-bending puzzler that challenges you to create convoluted chemicals in a nuclear furnace, is available on GOG.com right now for only $9.99, and we’re including the 63 Corvi DLC for free!

Spacechem is an indie puzzle game that depicts pseudo-scientific chemical reactions in a reactor. As an engineer, the player will conduct increasingly more difficult experiments that both challenge and entertain in a way unexpected by a puzzle-game and especially a chemistry-based puzzle game. Everyone knows that SpaceChem is only pseudo-science, but building the atomic reactor in the actually feels like you’re only a few steps away from getting a Ph. D. in helium-, hydrogen- and stuff-based reactions.

SpaceChem was named the best indie game of 2011 by Gamasutra and that is for a reason: it’s a mind-twisting, smartly-crafted puzzler with an interesting background story that will either force you to spend countless hours finding the proper solution or spend those countless hours slapping the atoms and waldos in random order in hope of something finally clicking (like you did with TIM). This game challenges your abilities to apply logic in a creative manner to problem solve, using nested loops and what are actually simple programming concepts to create very complex molecules. The challenges provided by Zachtronic Industries (which include the game + more levels from 63 Corvi DLC) do not require a Nobel prize, but they’re only short of that, and guarantee a high amount of challenge.

In short, SpaceChem is a fantastic puzzle game, difficult and joyful, and is now available on GOG.com for only $9.99.
Seems to me that the GOG team are getting their heads around all the new releases they are now including. It's a bit "skatty" at the moment but I'll willing to bet it'll improve with time.

PMIK: Yeah we can never get enough of those. Wing Commander 4 and Ultima 8 really settled the rage against the GOG.

They keep assuring us they will not lose sight of releasing classic games. They've convinced me so far...

serpantino: Yes but the old games need to stay at a twice weekly release. The releases feel slow as it is. Users are used to an old game release Tuesday and Thursday, replacing one with an indie is just messy and throwing in random newer retail games (Assassin's Creed) just makes the place feel like a garage sale. Maybe that's the new meaning they're going for Garage Of Games

There's 3 other days of the week they can use as a scheduled slot for indie games so there's no excuse to be replacing an old indie game. If they can't manage an extra release a week then they shouldn't have branched out and this shows in the new site design too which is woefully inadequate for such a mix.
Got it in the humble bundle, didn't play much of it (was driving me mad pretty soon) but original.

Why don't you post them to the " upcoming " list ?

TET when is the twitter draw gonna start :)
I got it already from the HIB, but I did not play it yet.
I hope Thursday's release will be something interesting for me.

AFnord: The game only uses chemistry as a theme. Gameplay-wise it is far closer to programming. Playing it reminded me of trying to get things to work in BASIC back when I was in elementary school.
Ok, you're right, but it remains a quite geeky and abstract game for a very specific target group, if not for chemists than for programmers. ;)
This is a brilliant puzzle game - and also ridiculously difficult. I've still got a world and a half left to finish on the Steam version, although I have completed the DLC and some of the bonus stuff. Last I checked I was at about 65 hours of played time - it's entirely possible to spend an entire evening just solving one puzzle.

Highly recommended, and if you decide to give it a try: good luck, and don't expect to finish. :)

Twitter draw is underweigh.

It may even be finished. I am unsure. Let me ask Mdyzzle.

Hm. A variety of reasons. None of which I could go into without losing my nickname. ;)

I hope there will be no more Botanicula fiasco .

They've been releasing more than 2 games a week since the relaunch. They released 4 last week.
low rated
well GOG I have to say I am disappointed with this release as it is a not an old game. Instead it is a newer game that everyone in the entire universe already owns. This is a huge surprise even though it was on the Coming Soon list for weeks. This goes to show what terrible direction GOG is going and I don't like it one bit. Games like Wing Commander IV, Theme Hospital, Populous: The New Beginning and Ultima 8 are just not good enough. where is System Shock and LucasArts, the fact that you don't have those is proof that you have no consideration for old releases. I guess I will have to find a better service.

Oh I'm sorry, My intelligent part of the brain seemed to have shut off for a bit, my bad.

Anyway, now that I am back to normal I am sorry to say I am not really interested in this release. I like games that make me think but just looking at the screenshots make me feel like that guy who wrote that first paragraph (not really into any kind of science stuff like chemistry). That being said it is nice to see more Indie games on GOG. Kinda wished I had a way to get Machinarium and Botanicula though, the Machinarium demo I recently played blew my mind.

It really isn't about chemistry at all. It's a chemistry-themed programming game.

What stops you from either getting them from GOG, or buying the current bundle from http://www.humblebundle.com/?
