The Smugglers V giant universe just got even bigger!

Smugglers V: Smuggler's Guild DLC At the same time the base game, Smugglers V, the turn-based Sci-Fi epic where you fight, trade, and pirate your way to the top of galactic elite, is available 60% off on GOG.com. That's only $3.99 each this week for the base game and the DLC.

Smugglers V is what you get when a dedicated creator polishes and improves every aspect of his game for years. Smugglers is not a series in the common understanding of the word. You don't need to play Smugglers 1-4 to enjoy the fifth one to full extent. It's still pretty much the same game, that evolves with each installment, gaining more and more gameplay depth, enriching the dynamic universe presented, and offering new options. In the latest version we offer you here, the phenomenal turn-based space-sim offers 30+ different spacecrafts, 100+ pilot skills and traits, 6 different career choices, and 4 factions to pledge allegiance to at your whim. The turn-based mechanics make this title extremely addictive, as the "one more turn" syndrome can hold you at the helm to the wee hours of the morning.

Smugglers V: Smuggler's Guild DLC is a compilation of background stories for Smugglers 5 and is named after the first of the three stories which, starts with the retirement of your trader father through ill health. There's no money in being an honest trader these days. Smuggling contraband is a risky business, but the rewards are great - especially for those lucky or connected enough to join the exclusive Smugglers Guild. The other two will send you on a treasure hunt and a quest for vengeance!

Forge your fortune, Pilot, and make your own destiny in a galaxy full of war, unrest, villany, and opportunity in Smugglers V and the Smuggler's Guild DLC, for only $3.99 each on GOG.com. The 60% off special promo for the base game lasts until Friday, July 25, at 11:29AM GMT.

blotunga: I think you will, it's not bad, although at some point it began to feel repetitive. Maybe I should try the latest patch :D.
Thanks, and perhaps the DLC does indeed inject some extra spice to the campaign.

I was glad to see GOG post that this game is more of an iteration than a sequel. I was a bit concerned that the previous titles weren't here, but now that I know it's more like a version number, I feel comfortable with this edition.

darkangelz: This is one of those games where gameplay > graphics. Highly recommended for fans of the genre.
Well, the genre has to be clearly defined then.

I bought it full price, played it once : once I succeeded to reach an advance stage of the game and died ... I lost pretty much all interest in the game because I found the combat system to be really uninspired (hence artificially time consuming).
Yes I know, playing peacefully is possible ...but still, throwing my thoughts here. I don't think I'll buy this additional stuff (I first have to want to play this again)

Edit : I have the same feeling about Bionic Dues ... I found those games really lacking on the mechanics side. I don't regret buying any of those mind you, but I had hoped to be hooked enough for several playthroughs.

Well, I already have the base game, so no discount for me. I don't feel like spending $4 for 7 megabytes worth of expansion... so I'll just wait for it to go on sale sometime.
I got it in one of those "pick 5" charity promotions GOG ocasionally has and I absolutely loved it.
You feel like an importante cog of the war machine rather than some prophetized savior who takes down an entire empire by himself.
The combat may be a bit repetitive for some people though.
Nice! I was hoping to see the sequel - the one where the Kilrathi... er, I mean the Jalkath invade.
So DLC is not discounted or it's 3.99 after disscount? The title is little misleading :)

The DLC isn't discounted at all. I agree that the title is easy to misconstrue.

I agree with you. However, once you get to the top in one of the professions, you can try another career. The gameplay of each one is quite different.

Then, the DLC seems focused on adding more flavour by playing more especific stories (as opposed to the base, sandbox game). I am looking forward to it--when it gets discounted.
