But baby, it's cold outside!

Richard and Alice, a sophisticated and mature indie adventure game that excels in captivating storytelling, is available on GOG.com for only $5.99.

There aren't that many games that leave you uneasy, feeling that what you just witnessed, what you were a part of, changed the way you look at the world. This is one of these games. Its setting might be an artistic vision of the future, but it's realistic enough not to draw attention from what really matters here: real life emotions, and a tale about what it means to be human. Richard and Alice are not your everyday game heroes. They feel real. Society slowly dissolves in the cold future world and the main characters have had their share of tragedy in their lives. Things look grim, but there must be some good left in the world. There must be some hope, even for a couple of strangers brought together by imprisonment. There has to be some love left, right?

Right?

Richard and Alice is an indie adventure title that utilizes the classic point-and-click mechanics and simplistic graphics to tell a mature and moving story set in a grim near-future science fiction Earth. While the gameplay is fairly easy, the game forces you to face some profound questions. You might not be happy with some of the answers. But whatever feelings you end up with after playing the game, we guarantee that you will appreciate the excellent writing.

Witness the cold, white downfall of modern civilization and uncover the scars and secrets held deep in the dark by Richard and Alice, for only $5.99 on GOG.com.
I don't disagree. I suppose I'm just more butthurt by the "reviews" on the review page than anything else, really.

Indeed it's a very insightful article for indie developers. Lars has been very helpful and communicative with the people here, and while I think the number of people he's talked to only account for a small share of the consumer base, it was enough to get people talking for a while. That it's also a fantastic game helped a lot too ;)

Regarding DQ's success here, I don't know how much it helped, but many of us had bought the game before they released it here on GOG, so we had enough time to play it and write reviews almost immediately. There was also a lot of us in the release thread talking about how good it is. Subsequent customers who would never have given it a second glance bought it, then came back to heap more praise on it, and I think that helped a lot too.

The graphics in this game do turn me off a little. But I always focus on the other points in games that matter much more to me. Like the gameplay and story. And since I like point & click adventure games and so on this one looks right up my alley and will be getting it soon as I can :)
Isn‘t it a bit strange that in an unlivable deathfrozen world where it snows since months or years, nothing, really nothing except the ground is covered with snow? Whats the point?

Yeah this struck me as strange too. I would have expected everything to be blanketed in snow.

McDon: If it's successful enough they'll probably make a ultimate/Richard and Alice+ game with extra content and better graphics hopefully like other indie companies do so more people can experience the writing.
If they do, I hope they improve on the sprites and backgrounds, so that they complement the music, sounds and writing better. Unlike other games like Defender's Quest and Hotline Miami, the game isn't great because of the visuals; it's great in spite of them.

(^moved this reply here from a much earlier post because there were a few things I wanted to amend)

obiwan: i am not taking anything away from GoG or the creative people that have developed this title. But every tuesday thursday lunchtime i wait with anticipation as to what good old game is to appear and with the exception of System Shock 2 it has been a bit disappointing lately. More so that its only usually 1-2 titles and when one of those is an indy game that better serves on Greenlight .... i dunno
Well, I don't exactly disagree with you. This certainly feels more like the sort of game I'd expect to see on Greenlight, but I can't argue with the price. A lot of the games getting greenlit seem to be over $10.. and actually, a lot of Indie games on GOG seem to be higher up lately, so it's nice to see one that's more realistically priced.

But I digress, what I wanted to say was that I, too, have been waiting for some of the older games I've wanted to see show up for a long time. It's cool we got Leisure Suit Larry now, but I'm finding myself with less and less to be interested on GOG lately, insofar as stuff I'm looking to buy goes. I've either already got most of what I want, or it's not on sale - again, Leisure Suit Larry.

Still, I won't deny this game it's right to be here, I just question whether it's going to be any good. Mature writing of quality seems to be a little sparse in the game world these days, so I always feel a bit of a flinch coming on when people throw it into a description. After all, I'd heard "A New Beginning" was supposed to have mature writing, too. It didn't.

after the hammering i got for this post originally i was reluctant to so much as show my face in here again. But i would like to thank you for seeing my post for what it was.

I FULLY understand that not everyone enjoys DRM/Steam and my post was not me being ignorant toward it i GENUINELY did not think about it because as a gamer i have come to accept DRM is here to stay and i would personally rather just play the game i want to play. That does NOT mean however i disagree with the principles of those that choose not to accept DRM you are 100% right i just choose the other option is all.

Anyways i'd like to appologise to anyone thinking that i was promoting DRM or that i had blindsided this factor ... it was never in my thought process so i am sorry for that.
Seems good.

you can promote DRM as much as you want if you like it / are ok with it, we live in a free world (damn you Ace of Base!)

a couple of angry responses shouldn't keep you from expressing your opinions (as long as they are fair and not offensive) - nobody ever died from too many minuses :D

PS: Steam does suck bad though ;)
