Grand Theft Pixels!

Retro City Rampage, the ultimate 8-bit(ish) criminal sandbox of villainy and violence in the vein of 1980s classic games, is now available on GOG.com for only $14.99.

UPDATE: Chiptune fans, rejoice! We've just added extra 10 exclusive tracks from the Retro City Rampage OST to our edition of the game (on top of the previous 10 demo tracks). GOG.com release of Retro City Rampage is currently the only offer to feature this content!

Blast those Evil Good Guys! Why do they have to meddle with every little thing we do? What does a fun lovin' criminal got to do to get those holier-than-thou morons off his back? All I want is some quality time shootin' my gun and drivin' my car. But will they let me wreck havoc in peace? Noooo. They have to swoop in and chase me, making my life harder and ruining all the sinister satisfaction for me. I've had it! This time it's going to be different. This time it's going to be me hunting them down. Hell yeah, this is going to be a real rampage! Ma'!? I'm going out, and I won't be back for dinner!

Retro City Rampage--the most anticipated nostalgic sandbox shooter in history finally arrives! From a brilliant veteran of NES homebrew scene comes the ultimate tribute to the 8-bit culture of the 1980s. With handcrafted pixelated visuals that will seem instantly familiar to all retro-gamers, elaborate chiptune soundtrack, dozens of references to classic games and popular culture, and satisfyingly modern sandbox gameplay, Retro City Rampage is going to take you on an insane nostalgic trip you won't soon forget. Hijack one of over 30 vehicles, grab one of 20+ guns, and embark on a multitude of varied missions as you rampage through the vast retro city of Theftropolis.

Could your day use a little auto theft and pixelated murder? A life of 8-bit crime and vintage violence awaits you in Retro City Rampage, available now for $14.99!
For any Mac users out there, I can indeed confirm that it works in CrossOver 11.2.2 on OS X 10.6.8 (and I have no reason to doubt that it would work in Wineskin). I had to run it in a Virtual Desktop to get the frame rate up on my archaic GMA 950, but I'm sure that on more sane graphics hardware, it would work great in fullscreen. I've spent a few minutes in freeplay mode and I tell you, I haven't laughed so hard in utter glee at the hilarity of a game in a long, long, *long* time. For crying out loud, they even do a total send-up of The Dark Knight and Inception on top of every other piece of 80's nostalgia, gaming and sci-fi that they mock/reference. $15 may at first seem steep for a game like this, but for sheer fun factor and enjoyment, in my opinion it delivers on its price in spades.

Edit: Seeing as how you get Steam and GOG codes by buying straight from the Dev, my only regret is that I didn't buy it direct from VBlank. I'm sure they'll get a ton of money from sales here anyway.

Edit 2: I'm still utterly flabbergasted that an army of lawyers haven't already sued VBlank into the ground over this game.

I think fate is against me playing borderlands 2.

First they threw me torchlight 2, then there is little big planet vita then Xcom. and now this? oh borderlands 2, when will I see you again.

Reminds me of the bird's eye view GTAs. Pretty tempting since I preferred their china town wars over the 3D GTAs (except San Andreas because its just too darn cool)

My wallet is crying
OMG! This Total Biscuit WTF is one of the better episodes. I love how he shows off some of the features most people hardly ever use or see.

Whelp, the weekend is here and no sale price. The way GOG rarely does sales for their "newer" games unless it's part of some collection "Square Enix Collection, etc" it probably won't be on sale for a long time. Guess I'm getting it from Steam.

I'll miss out on some bonus items, but really, my bank account will thank me for going with the better price.

EDIT: Actually, Steam had a really good sale on something I've been wanting a lot longer which came to the same price. Got 3 games for the price I'd have paid for the one, which is a far better deal than I could've asked for.

This works out cheaper for on g.o.g then steam by 2 english pounds plus I get bonus items but no acheivments oh well cant have it all I guess but I would rather but it here than on steam customer support is a lot better.
Since Steam's Offline mode has suddenly come unreliable for me I started to see real fast the beauty of DRM Free games. I'm older now and I'm willing to pay a few extra bucks so I can play my games when I feel like and not when my crappy router says I can.

HiroshiMishima: EDIT: Well, hrm.. if I buy it straight from the developer's site, is the DRM-free version GOG's? I actually kind of like the idea of getting both a Steam and GOG version for a single price. It'd let me get the extra goodies, but also allow to get achievements.

I do the achievements simply for myself, just to clarify.
Just to clarify, the official game description is wordly poorly, and implies that achievements are steam-only when they are not.

Achievements are in the DRM-free version and do not rely on steam to work - the way achievements should be.

Buying directly from the official site gives you a GOG key - but does not give you the GOG version of the game with the exclusive tracks.
I stupidly bought the game directly from the official site instead of through a third-party, because I naively thought that I would get the best deal, and the fastest updates.

But no. Because I chose to support the developer, I miss out on exclusive tracks and get updates last.

O.o wut? I'm pretty sure if you get a GOG game, you have access to everything that's currently on the gamecard, no matter if you bought the game on GOG, or someone gifted you a key purchased on GOG, or GOG just created some keys (as it happens when the dev provides a key) and you redeemed one.

I know that some games have built-in achievement-like things, such as badges in MacGuffin's Curse or medals in Medal of Honor, but that isn't what I was talking about. I was quite literally referring to the achievements associated with Steam. Was not aware that RCR had in-game ones.

Regardless, I ended up not buying it from anyone because I just didn't have the money at the time. Since my DS broke a while back, my game spending has gone down so I can set aside money for a 3DS XL on Black Friday.

Also, isn't this a little old? It's been a month, I'm surprised anyone found the topic considering how far it must've been pushed back by now.
