Better than a barrel of rum!

[url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/pirates_gold_plus/]Pirates! Gold Plus, a pack that includes Pirates! Gold and Sid Meier’s Pirates, the finest pirate simulation and its acclaimed Windows remake, is available in one big booty chest on GOG.com for only $5.99.

Sid Meier's Pirates! is one of the most memorable treasures in the history of PC games and nautical sims. The game might be 25 years old, but the unbeatable concept behind it hasn’t aged one bit. After all, swashbuckling and roaming the seas in search for adventure never gets old. The game offers a complex world full of gold to grab, ships to sail, ports to pillage, and rivals to ravage with a well placed cannon volley. Or if piracy and treasure hunting are not your thing, you can always turn to trading goods or even get married and settle down. The free roam gameplay is as unpredictable and varied as a sea rover’s life can get.

Both Sid Meier's Pirates! and its revamped Windows version Pirates! Gold take us to the Golden Age of Buccaneering. They let you experience the life of a pirate, privateer, or a pirate hunter in the Spanish Main. The tremendous depth of simulation in these games creates a nearly perfect image of the 16th, 17th, and 18th century Caribbean -- with all of its political, economic, and nautical realities -- and sea-salty flavor. With this game Sid Meier (a promising game designer at the time) earned the status of a legend in the industry. And there was a good reason for that!

Set sail for the ruthless seas! Grab Pirates! Gold Plus--TWO GAMES for $5.99 before scurvy gets the better of ye!

cosmicdolphin: I add my vote for the 2004 remake as well. It was bloomin marvelous. Even my wife loves it, and it's hard to find a game we both like.
It must be those Ballroom Dances :)

DCT: Yeah Ultima 6, Worlds of Ultima 1+2, 7 and 7 part 2 also have their manual based copy protection intact but oddly enough Might and Magic 3 and World of Xeen didn't. Seems they can't quite remove the Copy protection in some of these old dos games.

F4LL0UT: Yeah, it's funny that some games like Populous and The Incredible Machine have this stuff removed while others don't. I'm wondering if GOG or the developer/publisher providing the gamefiles didn't actually use cracked versions in those cases where the crackteam hadn't left some kind of signature in their release. After all, the copy protection screen shows up anyway in some of these games but accepst any input - I think that if these were versions created by the original developers having access to the source code the screens won't show up. Would be funny if some crackteam suddenly complained about copyright issues for using their crack. :P
Well, GOG stated several times that sometimes even companies owning rights/outright developers themselves don´t have source codes to older games, because it has been lost. In that case, they buy copies of original games and modify them to be able to run on modern machines. That might be the reason why the remnant bits of DRM are still there.
IMHO except for the graphics, Pirates! gold is a better game then the 2004 remake,Game Play is better, is is more realistic, and the land combat is much better. ANd I like the famous expeditions scenarios, which the 2004 version does not have. THe 2004 is fun, Pirates Gold is even more fun.

Or in the case of the Worlds of Ultima 1+2 the community supplies the files.
Damn, i got excited there for a minute thinking it was the 2004-ish remake. Oh well, I am sure these titles appeal to many users, so it's nice to see them here.
I want to be a pirate!
YES! Only recently surpassed by Skyrim as my pick for Best Game of All Time. Well done, GOG.

LOL, I was the same. The 2004 remake is the only one I"m interested in.

Still..... a lot of other people are happy with this release, so that's a good thing :)
YES! I was just thinking about purchasing this game used recently! Kudos to you, GOG! This is a great addition!
Wow! Historical day here! :-)

GOG, truly impressive to see you adding this epic title! A title like this one should have lots of "behind-the-scenes" extra though. I really hope you're able to add such things! (Another World is for me a prime example of extras worthy such a historical title.)

I'm saving my money for now hehehe... :-D

Thank you!!
This seems to be of a favourite. I'm sharing the gamecard constantly on Facebook and Twitter to promote and support it. :)

Awesome! A true gem - that's what GOG is for!
what a classic. I can almost hear the head of my old 1545 disk drive clacking. sighs and breaks out a tissue
I never could stand playing the 2004 Pirates! with the stupid dancing. That is, until I found the trainer that can do perfect dancing for you, but not skip it all together unfortunately. But if you are nothing like me and simply looove the thought of quicktime event dancing in a game about swashbuckling, then you are also gonna love Farenheit/Indigo Prophecy.

This pirates gold needs a cut. I will get it when it comes down to 2.99
Probably my favorite game series of all time. I'm not sure if I'll get it because I do have the 2004 version already.

Then again I'm pretty sure there were a couple things about Pirates! Gold that were superior. I like that Gold has the Silver Train and Treasure Fleet, I don't think the 2004 version has that.
