Double the vampire lords, double the fun!

Legacy of Kain: Defiance, the vampiric action-adventure game filled with furious fighting is now available on GOG.com for only $5.99!

Nosgoth, sweet Nosgoth. Motherland of the vampire kind. It might be a gloomy, morbid wasteland, but it's the only place a bloodsucking, cadaverous fiend can call home. So when a vicious, powerful enemy schemes to invade it, even mortal enemies like the ancient vampire overlord Kain, and the deformed, power-hungry outcast Raziel join forces in its defense. Each of them follows his own path of bloodshed and destruction towards the common goal, but little do they know about the plots and machinations underlying their quest. In the end, it might just be that only one of them will survive.

The combat oriented gameplay invites you to progress and master each character’s unique weaponry and fighting techniques. You will encounter countless imaginatively designed foes and explore a vast and--in its own twisted way--beautiful environment. As in the previous games in the saga, there will be puzzles to test your wits and the solid storyline will keep you intrigued for hours.

Legacy of Kain: Defiance ties provides a closure to the Legacy of Kain saga so don’t miss out on your last chance to become a fearsome vampire lord--heck, even two of them!--for only $5.99!

Paradoks: They don't. SR2, BO2 and Defiance all crash after a random amount of time unless you force one core affinity. This happened on three computers with different hardware.
ah, forgot i still have a single core cpu :P

Well it's an easily solved issue you can either manually set 1 core affinity or just simply put the games into Windows 98 compat mode which does it as well.

It's not really an issue.

Anyways.. you are still one 1 core? What kinda PC you have there? :)

Except that for whatever reason compatibility mode doesn't always work. Neither does setting the affinity after the game started. That's why it took me few years to pinpoint the problem.

You really want to know? Athlon 64 3000+... i just counted, seven years in work now.

I tend to forget just how ancient my PC is by today's standards. Never really bothered to upgrade 'couse I don't have much money and i'm always busy playing older games so I lack motivation. Just small tweaks like power supply, RAM, HDD... and some music equipment, 'couse I toy with music in my free time.

Know that feel, bro. I have an Athlon 64 3400+, WinXP too. Whole machine was a beast in '04 to be sure, but over 8 years later, well, there's a reason I whine for older games. ;-) I plan to a whole new machine next summer, when I will have graduated college, but then again I'll have lotsa loans to pay off.

:P

KainDrake: Sorry, but there is no closure. It ended in a cliff hanger and it seemed like there was supposed to be a sequel. Unless you mean, with a series riddled with plot holes, a cliff hanger is a perfect closure, I guess I agree. Just to be clear, I really liked this game so I'm glad gog has it now.

G-Doc: Maybe "closure" isn't the best choice of words, but the game manages to tie many loose ends that bothered the hell out of fans. And since it looks that there wont be any continuation, the ending that we've got is as close to an actual closure as we can hope to see.
Well, in that sense, i see what you mean. It still left plenty of unanswered questions for me though and the loose ends were more like "holy crap" type of moment for me though. Although I am glad they explained what happened to Turel, as he didn't appear as a boss in Soul Reaver, and I did like that Defiance ended where Blood Omen began, coming "full circle" as they say through out the series. Despite how my comments seemed, I really am excited Defiance is in GoG now. I really did like the game and despite the plot holes, Legacy of Kain still remains one of my favorite series.
A simple question for GOG staff: What's the deal with the first part of the series?

Could you shed any light on what's going on with that one?

Oh I know the feeling of having a completely obsolete machine. in 2006 I got a laptop through college it was only a latitude d520 had a Pentium M .6ghz and 128 shared intel mobile POS integrated chipset that didn't even support shaders 1.1.. I remember trying to play lego star wars on it and couldn't because of shaders. I knew even then it was not good and already obsolete and way over priced but i didn't have to pay anything up front it was just added to my student loans. I couldn't afford something like that out of pocket so i jumped at it. It may have been crap but it did serve me very well and I have fond memories of it. I did log a few hundred hours of WoW on the thing lol. I played a lot of Diablo II and Blood Omen on it.

I did upgrade the ram in it to 1.5gb so I was able to play WoW on low settings and that was the extent of my computer power up until 2010 when I bought a modest dual core PC off my friend that he paid $800 for the year before, I paid him only $150 because he came into some money and bought himself some uber powered macbook. But 6 months later both my PC and my laptop were burgled from my home while I was at work along with other stuff.

Kinda forced my hand to build something this past tax season on the cheapest budget I could.

Now I have a AMD FX-4100 Quad Core @ 3.6ghz 8gb ram and a 1GB Radeon HD 4850 i built myself from the ground up.

Sequiro: snip
There are some good things about it - not having to deal with all of the problems modern PC users have with running older games...

BTW I wonder, would it be worth keeping the old PC when I finally decide to move on? This made me formulate a question, but as it's kind of offtopic here, so I'll make another topic for that: http://www.gog.com/en/forum/general/older_os_on_newer_pcs
Great release, though I hope some gentle soul links the camera patch into the game review comments... seriously, that camera is bloody terrible.

and now, for the usual:

Dear GOG:

please-please-please-with-a-sundae-on-top (pick your flavour), release Blood Omen 1. I will pay you $20+ for it, and will insta-buy ALL the LoK games at one.

until you do that, I shall be waiting for a Squeenix sale to pick up these games, DX and Thief all in one fell swoop.
