You'll have a hoot!

Giana Sisters: Rise of the Owlverlord, a standalone expansion to the fantastic colorful platformer that constantly shifts between two imaginative worlds, is available 10% off on GOG.com. That's only $4.49 for the first week.

One of them is a perky blonde, always cheerful and smiling. Looking at her you would imagine that she makes her grandma proud. The other one is a feisty redhead with an attitude and punky style. This one is the kind of girl your grandma warned you about. This good girl/bad girl duo call themselves the Giana Sisters. But here's the kicker. They are actually the same person. Imagine that. If this isn't the most prominent illustration of the dissociative identity disorder in video games, than I don't know what is. Giana's split personality makes her experience two very different worlds, each with its very distinctive mood. Even the music she hears in her head changes on a whim. Life must be difficult for a platform game character with that sort of condition. Would you kindly help Giana along her way through her twisted dreams before the Evil Owlverlord takes over?

Giana Sisters: Rise of the Owlverlord brings a total of seven new extensive action-packed levels to the colorful Giana Sisters universe. Each of the main heroine's two personalities plays a little bit different and travels through its own dream. Master the original reality-shifting mechanics to overcome obstacles that wouldn't budge any other way. If you enjoy solid platforming gameplay with some imaginative twists allowing for unique puzzles and imaginative level design, make sure not to miss this gem of a standalone expansion. It's more than worth its tiny price tag.

Blast through the dreamworld and nightmareworld to take on your arch-nemesis in Giana Sisters: Rise of the Owlverlord, for only $4.49 on GOG.com. The 10% launch discount offer lasts until Tuesday, October 8, at 9:59AM GMT.
Hey Blues, not that I'm complaining, but is there another game coming for Tues (or, another one before the Thursday releases)?
Not giving them my money since they seriously screwed the pooch on this last patch. I don't care how good the DLC is, I'll pick it up if it ever goes free, but that's it.
Eh. Given how "well" the last Giana Sisters game was handled, I'll pass. Get rid of the nag screen and fix the months old patch for the last game and I'll consider it.
avatar
tarasis: I won't be picking it up, but thats more because I got a Steam key for backing the sadly cancelled Kickstarter Project Ravensdale.
avatar
deonast: For that reason I'd probably get it here, as Yes I have the Steam key from that as well. I feel I should return the favor to a small developer, and I like DRM free.

That said I see some worrying comments about their inability to release patches.
Yeah the comments about the lack of patching for the GOG version is disheartening.

Piranjade: As far as I know the game runs with any problems.
Aside from the occasional crash on my otherwise completely stable computer and some performance issues... Hopefully 1.1.2 will fix that.
I really wouldn't call it a patch but rather extra content. It's an additional mode ("Sweet Dreams").
Even after the Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams was released Black Forest Games continued to add extra content for free like the Halloween and Christmas levels and yes, this mode. I thought that it was nice of them to continue adding to the game.
And now the reason not to buy Rise of the Owlverlord is that we haven't received one piece of additional free content on GOG (yet)?

I run it on a very old machine and don't have any problems at all (although I had crashes with other games like Ittle Dew for example). I don't think that adding the "Sweet Dreams" mode will change that.

Piranjade: ~snip~
Any patch that touches the engine can and will introduce or fix bugs in the engine, be they game modes or not.

I've tried running the game on two different and fairly new machines. "Your mileage may vary! TM" Glad it works for you at least.

I'm glad about that too.
And sad that I don't have a fairly new machine.

*ponders*
Does that crash happen in Überhardcore?

I think that the problem is that a lot of people are feeling neglected. Believe me, I'm a person who always tries to understand and excuse virtually everybody but right now I'm having a problem doing it.

Adding an additional content for free is of course praiseworthy. But it seems that Sweet Dreams mode was not intended as "additional free content" but as a way to promote the game and increase sales. It was released on Steam which is the biggest market so they basically wanted to attract more customers. Additional levels means next to nothing for a person who is in doubt whether she/he can enjoy the main game at all. But a message "this game is not so hardcore anymore, don't be afraid" may do the trick. If they had wanted to release it as a bonus (like aforementioned additional levels) they would (and should!) have given it to kickstarter backers first. I've heard a lot of complains from backers that they didn't received this update neither...

At that point I don't blame them at all. I can understand that they really needed some money to continue their other projects and decreasing the difficulty was a good way to win new customers. But one should never neglect old customers and it seems it just happened in this case. This addon is already two (more?) months overdue and this is a bit over the top. Did we not buy this game? We did! Than why we are treated differently than Steam users? I wouldn't have any problems with it if kickstarter backers were promoted - they funded this game after all. But why does it matter which distributors we use?

Perhaps it's a lame comparison but can you imagine what would happen if a teacher decided that every second student would get the best grade for free? That would be unfair, wouldn't it?

I can be absolutely wrong here but this whole situation can be interpreted as follows: "we want more money and that's why we released in on Steam because it's the only place we can actually make some decent amount of money. If you already had it on Steam - good for you, you will get an extra content. You got it somewhere else? Bad luck!"

Today's release just made it worse. It supports the thesis that they apparently are having some financial problems and hence they are desperately trying to earn as much as possible. If they released the patch for the original game today IMHO they would save face. Unfortunately they didn't so they are just losing their credibility. I'm really trying not to judge them, it may happen that the actual reasons for this delay were absolutely different and then my interpretation is a pile of crap but the fact is that a lot of people are feeling neglected and I'm not surprised that they don't want to buy Rise of the Owlverlord.

And it's a shame really because Giana Sisters is a great game indeed, one of my favorite platformers ever (perhaps even the best one)
Thanks to the people that brought up the issue of patches not being made for the GOG version of Giana Sisters. I bought the game here and had no idea about that as I never read the kickstarter page or checked the sub forum for the game. I wouldn't have got this yet as I still haven't beat the main game, but the situation with the updates makes it a no purchase for me until they get things sorted out.
I don't think an easy mode is a very important addition to Twisted Dreams. There are some tricky stages but you have infinite lives and checkpoints so its far from hardcore on normal settings...
Just my opinion of course.

I feel the same way. I don't think I'm a great platform gamer, but I had no big problems with this game until I reached the final boss. No idea why this game is regarded as hardcore...
After the awesomeness of the past few weeks, I can understand taking it easy for a few days. I am curious about TET's visit to London, perhaps to do some Squeenix business. Good things?

Hoping of course that the grand finale is a new publisher, perhaps ZeniMax (letting us keep Fallouts) or one of the Big 3!

He did go with Video Ninja so they are recording something, maybe for the grand finale? Maybe involving Dr. M? :) We only know they've been to Eurogamer Expo, when they posted that picture of the Surgeon Simulator 2013 ambulance that was in front of the expo building.

Also, what happened with the Instagram hints? Don't we still need to get the 'action game that's full of gore'? I think we got all the others, but I'm not sure.

Oooohhhh, Eurogamer Expo - well that makes sense, promoting GOG there. I hope SS2013 isn't the grand finale, though.
