1990s - when TV was still a thing!

GEX, a TV-culture-crazed classic side-scrolling platformer where you take down the devious media mogul Rez as a wise-cracking gecko, is available for only $5.99 on GOG.com!

His uncle modeled for a yuppie shirt logo, his Dad blew up in a NASA rocket, his busy Mom raised him in front of the tube. Meet GEX - a wisecracking gecko with a major attitude. With his blazing tongue, battering tail, and sharp wit, this outrageous reptile is ready to kill TV and movie rejects in a sidesplitting game of awesome intensity! This classic platformer from the 90s serves up a myriad of decade-specific TV and movie one-liners, and lets you battle your way through 5 uniquely-themed worlds of the Media Dimension. Not to mention that your hero GEX, unlike most geckos, can hurl fireballs, climb buildings, tail-slap his foes, and inhale power-up bugs for extra energy.

This game tickles strange parts of my brain even though I'm positive i've never played it. I REMEMBER those screenshots so vividly!

jamesbuc: Im personally hoping for the third game to be released later... And hopefully with the U.K. Voiceovers (Danny John Jules is awesome) rather than the kinda bland voice that's used normally...

benmar: That would be fantastic, but sadly the third game was not released for the pc.

Perhaps you only saw ads for it? Walking through the game store...??

MaximumBunny: Oh my. I did not know that this was on PC. :O
Same here. I voted for Gex on the community wishlist, but I didn't really think we would get it as I thought it was only a console game. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised. Another part of my gaming childhood I get to relive thanks to GOG.com =D.

The 2nd Gex also has a PC version, but not the 3rd one.
*POP*

Bringing this thread up again, as a live stream of GEX is starting in a little over half an hour on Twitch.tv/GOGcom!

Of course, you can also watch it right here, on GOG.

Have fun!
Awesome!
Just by chance noticed this thing was going on. For some reason I wasn't all that interested when this came to GOG, but now that I've watched a good bit of the stream it actually looks like a very fun and wacky platformer. Wishlisted for the time being.

While initially I wasn't sure about the whole twitch thing, I think this is actually quite a nice addition as it has made me interested in some games I might not have considered otherwise. It's a good bit of advertising, especially where some of these older games are concerned.
I quite enjoyed that livestream with this "BeerTaffy" guy. I didn't know you did this sometimes, apparently, but I really like the idea and hope you do it more in the future!

You know who might be a good Youtuber to reach out to? "gggmanlives". This guy REALLY knows his old-school FPS'! It's because of his reviews that I picked up Sin: Gold on your site. And will eventually pick up more retro shooters as I work my way through some of these lesser known titles (if you ever bring on Exhumed/Power Slave and No One Lives Forever though, I'll nab them right away!)

He also looks at current stuff and indie games in general though. I think he's pretty good.

Here's his look at Sin and a link to his Youtube in general:

I do really think this a great idea and I'm gonna be heading to your Youtube page more often now if you're getting cool Youtubers to show off some of these retro games now! PCGamer's Richard Cobbett almost single-handedly made me interested in ancient point-and-click-ventures. Partnering with people who know these things to show them off is genius!

If I didn't already have GEX on PS3 (digitally; as a PSX Classic), I'd definitely buy it for PC.

That sounds interesting! Thanks for pointing that guy out!

GOG invites people to stream for them and they can apply here:

(at the bottom of the OP there's an explanation).

Played some 3D stuff with Gex on PS1 which I enjoyed, dunno if I would like the side scrolling stuff though, hopefully the 3D stuff will come here, they were fun :)
