One of these days we're gonna get organizized.

Gangsters: Organized Crime, a multi-layered strategy game that puts you in charge of a small family business (a.k.a. crime syndicate) in a prohibition-era Chicago-like city, is now available on GOG.com for only $5.99.

Dear judge Michaels! I'm writing to you in hope to clear some common misconceptions about myself, my family, and the business we run. We take pride in our little Pizzeria and we won't have anyone badmouthing us. There's simply no reason anyone should believe that we sell liquor. My grandma is a god-fearing woman, see? She wouldn't have that. Someone must have mislead our dear law enforcement. Must have been the Firnellis. It's just like them to try and frame honest folk for their own shenanigans. And while I'm on the topic of Firnellis, I was devastated just as everyone else when the young Antonio Firnelli was found in that alley. Why would anyone suggest that it was one of my boys that stabbed the poor fella? I knew him since he was a bambino! He was like family. And speaking of family: your grandson is having such a great time in our lakeside cabin, that I thought we should let him be our guest for a little while longer. I know you'll be passing a ruling in the case of my nephew Roberto (who was visiting his aunt at the time of that terrible shooting, by the way) on Friday. So let's say we keep your kid entertained till Saturday. Fresh air is good for kids. We can even take him fishing. Or not. It's entirely up to you.
Sincerely,
Donatello "Don" Casandrino

Gangsters: Organized Crime lets you manage all aspects of a mob "family business". Set in a vast city presented in detailed isometric view and populated with over 5,000 individual characters, it features real-time action mixed with careful planning. Did you think that being a Don is easy? Now you can see first-hand how complicated a life of crime might get!

Become an "honest businessman" and put the concrete shoes on your competitors' feet in Gangsters: Organized Crime, for only $5.99!

I've played this; thought it was a frustrating, over-complicated mess.

grviper: YEEEEHAAAAAA!!!
My scream exactly!
I loved this game when it first came out (the sequel, Gangster 2 was also enjoyable but not to the same level). I still have my original CD but I haven't been able to get it to work on Windows 7.

I'm really looking forward to playing this again!
Oh no! Another great game! My wallet can't take anymore! ;) Thank you GOG!
I forgot all about this game! I think I had a demo that I played all the time when I was younger, can't wait to give it a shot now that I may have the mental capacity to play it!
This game is a classic. It is a very polished, addictive and challenging old-school strategy game. Great release.

I don't play this in over a decade now, but it seems to have aged well too.

timppu: Not familiar with the Gangsters series (1 nor 2), albeit I'm sure I've seen the Gangsters 2 gamebox with the Capone face somewhere. I have Mob Rule from GOG already and even played it a bit, are the Gangstesr games similar?

MobyGames user reviews were funny to read: Gangsters 1 was panned for being overly complicated and hard to play, while the sequel was panned for being dumbed down. :D Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

I think saying Gangsters 2 was dumbed down is a little exagerating, both games in the series play well but take some getting used to, like many complex strategy games. And complex is good. Reading the manual in length helps.

Sorry for not comparing to Mob Rule, I never played that one, but I can see at least two important differences: Mob Rule is apparently more humorous/less serious in tone and the cartoonish artwork of Mob Rule is quite different from the Gangsters series.

Edit: funny how the Gangsters logo was (probably intentionally) designed to resemble the Godfather's.

Thanks GOG! One of my favourite games of all time and I still hold the disc here next to my PC. It was dfficult to get into it with a bad interface but once you learned how to play it the game did the management part extremely well.
If you manage to survive the first 3-4 weeks in-game, you'll find an extremely rewarding experience waiting for you... although that is a big "IF", specially when you're first starting out.

They are quite different, actually - in Mob Rule you build your premises with the help of your gang, who you then proceed to turn into other useful characters and this all happens in (very fast paced) real-time, while in Gangsters you plan your next moves (procure land for expansion or build on already-owned land, collect protection fees, carry out acts of sabotage, etc.) in a turn-based interface and your gangsters carry out your orders in real-time, where you only have very limited access on what's happening.
Also, Gangsters is way more complicated.

PMIK: Nice to have a string of classic releases. This is the gog we know and love!

I can't really justify a purchase at present though. I went on a crazy spending spree during the summer sales and have so many games to play already.
Thats your opinion.
Dont group the rest of us in the same class.
In my case, i like variaty, new games, old games or indie games dont really matter to me as long as the games are fairly good.

Um...okay then, let me rephrase.

That's the gog that we (except for Lodium) know and love!

I like variety too but one of the main selling points for gog, other than DRM free, is the fact that they release games we can't find anywhere else.
There are many new games that I'd rather see on GOG than this particular old one. But, in point of fact, aren't we getting a new game tomorrow? It's not like we need to choose.

Friday is the start of the weekend promo day (discount for some existing GOG games), not the introduction of new releases to GOG.

Everyone has their own idea what they'd like to see in GOG. I personally don't care that much for e.g. System Shock 1+2 or Grim Fandango to appear in GOG as I've had the retail versions for ages already, but I will not complain if they appear here one day. :)
