Per aspera ad astra!

Galactic Civilizations I: Ultimate Edition an epic Sci-Fi turn-based strategy game of great complexity and scale, telling the story of humankind's conquest and domination over the galaxy, is available 20% off on GOG.com. That's only $7.99 for the first week.

Up until now there wasn't much anyone could do. The only way to colonize other worlds was to use wormhole travel. It allowed to cover great distances, but the range of the fleets were limited to those few fixed points on the stellar map. Now, with the invention of the hyperdrive and faster-than-light travel, there's no place out of our reach among the stars. This is it. The pivotal point in the history of humankind. Our coming of age. Now it's up to us to find out if we are destined to be elevated to rule over the galaxy or reduced to slaves. A.D. 2178 - the new age of discovery and conquest. Time to face the other galactic civilizations. May we overcome them all!

Galactic Civilizations I: Ultimate Edition puts you in charge of the humankind's campaign for domination of Milky Way. In this epic turn-based strategy you're going to use all possible means to conquer the other great powers of the known universe--The Altarian Republic, The Yor Collective, The Drengin Empire, The Torian Confederation and the Arcean Empire. You can use diplomacy and cunning to divide and rule. You can focus on sheer military power to force the rivals into obedience. You can try to assimilate the others into the Terran culture, or crush their economies with your effective commerce. You can finally focus on technological advancement and conquer the stars with the might of human mind and its superior inventions. The possibilities are endless, and it's all up to you, as the leader of United Earth. The Ultimate Edition of the game contains the Altarian Prophecy expansion pack. If that's still not enough space conquest for you, there's an extensive scenario editor included!

Set out for the stars and explore, expand, exploit, and exterminate in Galactic Civilizations I: Ultimate Edition, for only $7.99 on GOG.com. The 20% discount is available until Thursday, April 18, at 10:59AM GMT.
Yes, Stardock. Great news for me. I hope you also get GalCiv 2 and Sins of the Solar Empire. Always wanted to try them, but the drm-scheme (no downloadable updates, only via online account) was a no-go for me.
Hmm, I loved the sequel but never played the first game. Can anyone tell me how it compares please?
Big release. Good to see Stardock here.

Bigs: Do these require a Stardock account for patching (think the Sins games do.. along with GalCiv II IIRC)?
I guess and hope so. Kalypso started the same ugly behaviour for their new releases, but as far as I can see gog updates Omerta themselves. But to be sure an official feedback would be nice.

Yes I have almost the same question. Should I buy this or should I wait for Galactic Civilizations 2?
For a second, I confused this with Imperium Galactica. For a second, I was happy.

Damn, I want IG2 so bad ! My old physical copy won't work on my computer... :/

...ok, RT is not SO bad... :p
Great release, although I'm most curious to see when we'll have a DRM-free release of SoaSE: Rebellion. All of Stardock's other stuff has already been DRM-free in the past (unless you count the patching of GalCiv 2, Demigod, SoaSE etc.).

Rebellion was the first Stardock game I didn't buy owing to the forced use of Steam.

To be perfectly honest, GalCiv 2 is the better game of the two.
cant say anything about this one, but for me galactic civ 2 is the best 4X game for one reason: fairness
cpu doesnt cheat (unless you want him to) and at least SEEMS to behave like a human with long time goals and stuff, so when you play galciv 2 you feel like you are playing on an even field against every cpu opponent where everyone has the same possibilities

other games make the cpu cheat when you make this specific rival harder on the difficulty level, or you dont even have the same possibilities in the first place (like negotiations where cpu offers and you can just accept or not), galciv 2 is fair, everyone has the same possibilities, and cpu behaves like a human

as i said, its all about the second game, so i am not here to praise the first, but to express my happyness that the series as a whole is now on board
I swear I couldn't help imagining TET's voice speaking the blurb as I read it then - damn 'This week on GOG' feature, he's in meh heed!
Great release.
GalCiv is one of the best Space 4x games, only beaten bei GalCiv 2.
Let's hope number II is also released here :P
Wow! Fantastic release :D

Can't wait for Galactic Civilizations 2!
