Paint the town a darker shade of red.

Crimsonland, the SHMUP that shoots first and forgets to ask questions later, is available now for 50% off on GOG.com! That's just $6.99 for the entire first week!

You're just a man. A man stranded... somewhere. You're about to make some friends. Here comes the gang now: the gross man-eating spider, a green zombie doing the shuffle, and look, he brought his giant pet lizard. Any questions? Too slow, you're dead. Try again, and grab a pistol, we don't have answers anyhow. Shoot that ugly spider face! Blast those awkward zombie legs off! Burn that giant lizard up, what a silly idea for a pet anyway. Done shooting? Here comes another bazillion of them.

In Crimsonland, there is no time to waste on a backstory, there are no space marines, no zombie apocalypse. It's just you, the creatures, and over 30 unique weapons at your disposal - some are shooty, some explode, and some are just plain unusual. As you unload your fury on anything that moves, you'll earn perks for that additional kick of awesome: set monsters on fire with a glance, turn into a ninja, or unleash a deadly plague. This 2014 remaster of the textbook shoot 'em up is everything a fan could ask for: tighter controls, a colorful high definition spectacle, and the ultimate carnage of local co-op for up to 4 players. As you progress through the game you'll unlock new weapons and perks to build your arsenal for the ultimate challenge: Survival Mode. If you're nostalgic for the experience that captured gamers' hearts back in 2003, we're throwing in the original Crimsonland as part of the package!

Shoot 'em all up with a touch of RPG in the remastered Crimsonland, for only $6.99 on GOG.com! The special 50% off discount will be here all week, until Thursday, August 21 at 9:59AM GMT.

jrqualls: The game file downloads great, but all the extras show the following error in the downloader:

Unable to fetch data, try again later!
Should be good to go in about 2 minutes :) Sorry about that!

Strijkbout: Release date July 2014, is this a remake?
If my memory serves me correctly this game has been around for ages.
Price is a bit steep too IMO, but that seems to be common with new releases these days, oh well.
The release date is for the new version of the game as that's the version being sold :)

F4LL0UT: Uhm, if I got it straight *both* versions are being sold in that package, right? :p
The original is included as a free bonus :) If it were being sold alongside the new version, then we'd have a different title for the game card probably "Crimsonland + Crimsonland Classic" or something along those lines :)

cyboff: Woohoo!! Finally here, thanks GOG!
Also great thing is that it works nicely in wine 1.7.23 in ubuntu (not tested fully, but so far it is without problem...)
Any winetricks needed or just set up a virtual drive and go through the usual installation routine? :)

cyboff: I used new virtual drive with wine 1.7.23 in PlanOnLinux on Ubuntu 12.04... (no winetricks, plain wine 1.7.23, 32bit in my case...)
Then as usual just run setup_crimsonland_2.0.0.1.exe, then choose crimsonland.exe as a main executable to make shortcut...
Maybe it runs also in older versions of wine (1.5.x and older), but you need to install "winetricks gdiplus" just to run GOG installer without errors...
Interesting :) I am still new to Wining games ...

Got any tips you'd like to share over PM about this? :)

JinseiNGC224: So would it be too much effort to add "includes the original Crimsonland from 2003" under the What's cool about it checklist? I just feel people will more readily notice it and understand that it has the classic, as opposed to just an extra that says Crimsonland Classic. It doesn't seem much of a difference, but for me at least I look at the checklists even before I glance at the extras, and it's just confirmation to a would-be buyer that it has the classic they are indeed looking for.
Done :)

cyboff: Don't know if I'm that good at this, but if you have some questions, don't hesitate to ask me through PM... :D
I think good start is to install PlayOnLinux ( http://www.playonlinux.com/ ) and play with installs there :D
I have PoL installed at home :)

(I've been unsuccessfully trying to run Tower of Guns via Wine and that's why I have it installed.)

undeadcow: Another developer website with no mention of GOG availability...

undeadcow: I know there are a few other games listed this way and I really appreciate original material being included.

Curiously what are the implications of Crimsonland original being included as a "bonus" and not a part of the sale? Is that a marketing decision? ...Or is the case that GOG can't assure bug fixes or compatibility for the original?
The latter :)
avatar
zaine-h: It reminds me of some other game I played ages ago.
avatar
F4LL0UT: Maybe the original Crimsonland from 2003 that comes as a bonus with this remake?

The other most similar games I know are Phobia 2 and 3 (freeware) and the RIP Trilogy (available on Steam).

JudasIscariot: The original is included as a free bonus :)
avatar
F4LL0UT: One question: does that mean that the classic game is not covered by official support and/or not guaranteed to work on modern systems? Would prefer to know before buying the game(s).
The bonus version is offered as-is but we did test it and it ran on everything we have here in the office :)

(everything = any system with Windows XP and above :) )

tinyE: I am LOVING this, but if I may ask an assholish/idiot question: is there any way to change weapons during a level?
Kill things and watch them drop weapons :D

CrowTRobo: This looks like it might be something I'll enjoy, I think I will pick it up.

CrowTRobo: The Wine AppDB is a great resource. Here is the page on Tower of Guns. It doesn't have a good test rating unfortunately: https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=30756
Yeah, I can't even get it to launch :) Wine won't let me install any dotnet tricks UNTIL it gets dotnet 2.0 installed and that ain't happening on a 64-bit system :D

Klumpen0815: Yes, the quest mode is like a long tutorial showing you everything in the game in a slow and fun way training you for the real (survival) game. I'm at the last mission now in "normal" difficulty.
It's extremely addicting and you have to develop some tactics to be able to survive. Simply running around the hordes and shooting in the middle doesn't get you far, because you are dependend on the items they drop and they don't stay there for long.

Klumpen0815: I like the soundtrack, but if it has Rock or Metal, I'm in anyway.

BTW: It runs flawlessly in WINE without any additional configuration. :)
So I recommend this to pure Linux users too.
There is a native Linux version in the works for Crimsonland. No ETA as to when that will be done :)

Klumpen0815: This warms my heart. :)
There's also another game inside :D

SWAT85: Game is nice, but in my opinion 7 dollars is way too much.
I know I'll sound like I am selling this game as I do work here and all but this game is quite addicting. I spent the better part of a three day weekend playing the Blitz mode and I am barely functional at work now. Like zombie mode up in here.

FYI, I do play CKII and adventure games and other games that have a deep story but Crimsonland just gives that nice feeling "shoot at everything until it stops moving" feeling :D

Finally, there's always a sale so no need to get it now :)
