An authentic real-time WW II experience. All expansions included.

Blitzkrieg 2 Anthology, an elaborate RTS taking you through some of the greatest campaigns of World War II in a realistic 3D environment with authentic units and equipment, is now available on GOG.com for only $9.99.

No one anticipated that the war started by the Nazi Germany invading Poland on September the 1st, 1939 would last until 1945 and consume up to 70 million human lives. Over the course of six years the most devastating conflict in the history of humankind led to extensive changes in military technology and tactics. Many historians say the war that ended in 1945 wasn't the same war that started in 1939. Blitzkrieg 2 Anthology is a game that focuses on the final campaigns of WW II in the European Eastern Front and gives you the chance to lead US Army Forces, German Wermacht, or the Soviet Army.

Blitzkrieg 2 Anthology includes the original Blitzkrieg 2 game and both of its expansions: Fall of the Reich and Liberation. In each of the many scenarios of this realistic RTS you control a pre-defined squad of historically accurate units that gain experience and acquire new skills as you progress. The game includes an encyclopedia describing each of over 250 unit-types available at your disposal. If the historical campaigns don't prove to be challenging enough for you, there's a mission editor in which you can create your own scenarios--historical or not. With the interactive, full-3D environment adding depth to the gameplay and faithful recreation of famous WW II battles, this title is a must-have for all PC armchair generals!

Squadrons of stout soldiers await you to lead them through the waning moments of war in the Blitzkrieg 2 Anthology, for only $9.99.
What an awesome release. Excellent value for the money. I look forward to playing this when the time comes.
So ... no old releases this week? Very disappointing. :(
Nice, wishlisted. Try and get Sudden Strike and any other similar games. There was tons of em ;)
How "3D" is this game? Just the vehicles? Can you rotate the terrain smoothly 360? Just curious, since I like that best. I read this (old) review at Gamespot.com and they seemed to think it's still a 2D game...

"Graphically, Blitzkrieg also keeps the 2D, sprite-based visual look of the original game, which is both old-school and sort of refreshing. The problem with 3D graphics engines is that trying to create any kind of destructible environment results in huge frame rate problems. That's not an issue in Blitzkrieg 2--you can pretty much blow up everything (or have tanks just knock over entire forests), and the frame rate doesn't hitch up. And though it doesn't look as cutting-edge as other games, it still looks pretty good. There's something to be said for the older, 2D look in this day and age, which looks more like a painting and less like a collection of polygons. And the good news is that it runs fairly well even on older, slower systems, which are the types of systems that wargame fans tend to have. The sound effects, meanwhile, are adequate, though the music dangerously borders on corny."

Yeah, I did a list some time ago where I suggested similar games in case someone is looking for more of these types of games: http://www.gog.com/en/forum/blitzkrieg_series/if_you_like_this_game_suggestions_of_similar_games

The first Blitzkrieg was great! I finished it a couple of weeks ago. If I had some money left at the moment, I'd definetly buy this one instantly! For fans of the genre, this Blitzkrieg 2 Anthology offers hours of fun.

Nice! At one point there is a truck at the bottom of the screen, slowing turning around, and is clearly a 3D image. Or a sprite with a helluva lotta snapshots! :)

Thx.
Wow the video makes this game look simply amazing!

Blitzkrieg 2 is amazing, if you like games of such genre! :)
How would you describe it, comparing to Company of Heroes?

Let's try to compare the gameplay: In COH you basically control a few units and move them on small maps. In Blitzkrieg you control many units and move them on huge maps. Also it isn't that painful in Blitzkrieg, if you lose some men, as you can still finish the missions. However that doesn't mean the game is easier: Both are quite hard on higher difficulty levels.

Mission-wise you can't compare them at all. COH has somewhat of a good story, while Blitzkrieg focuses on repetitive mission design and uses the historical background to keep the missions in a certain order. Anyways, if you like COH, I am pretty sure you will also like Blitzkrieg, although it is a little different.

Thx a lot. I really enjoyed Co -, of course the story, as you've described, is marvelous. Definitely wishlisted then!
Another big difference with CoH and Blitzkrieg is that CoH shifts between missions where you have a fixed unit selection (no reinforcements) and its more normal play where you've a base, resources and you build up an army.

In Blitzkrieg you don't have any base building or unit building aspects - you've your starting forces and that is it. You have to win or lose with those forces. Now the 2nd game appears to also have reinforcements you can pull in off map (something the first hasn't got) and there are some units can get back (you can paradrop troops/snipers for some forces).
But the focus is very much that with Blitz you're not building armies you're using them so taking losses is something you really want to keep to a minimum - as whilst you can take them the more you take the harder the mission becomes.

Also tanks are very powerful but also easy to crack, unlike CoH where they've a larger health bar tanks in Blitz can very easily be taken out with only a few well placed shots (they can also have their tracks shot out so repair vehicles are important).

Another neat thing is that if you sniper gun emplacements or specific weapon types you can reinforce those abandoned weapons with your own troops in Blitz. So careful use of supply trucks and snipers can see you expand your forces on the map.

Sounds fun, one of these days I will have to get around to playing it.
