It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

hedwards: I doubt that Alpha Centauri is going to run well on Atom hardware. Atom is just incredibly weak compared with pretty much anything else I can think of at a similar clock speed.

Trying to run it on my 1.6ghz APU would be pushing it, let alone trying it with an Atom that isn't a lot faster.

Osama_bin_Laden: When SMAC came out in 1999 its system requirements were:

Pentium 133 MHz processor
16 MB RAM
60 MB HDD space

I can't really understand how you would think that an Atom processor would not be enough? It would have been different if we are talking about a game running on Dosbox which requires a lot more power.

Besides the required processor power which will not be an issue here, there is of course a lot of things that can make your game sluggish if it is running on a much newer computer and\or operating system. Luckily with this one it seems like it is working as it should.

This thread could be useful though:
http://www.gog.com/en/forum/sid_meier_s_alpha_centauri_/how_to_run_alpha_centauri_on_an_1024x600_netbook
Check the product page. The listed requirements seemed high to me, but with the way that processors are rated these days it's gotten rather confusing as to when I do and do not require the stated frequency.

EDIT: And Atom processors tend to be on the weak end of things, the 20% or so that I've seen people suggest seems to be about right. That may have changed though.

hedwards: snip
The Atom processors are much more powerful than a Pentium 133, trust me on that. They are at least made to be able to run modern browsers and Windows 7.

The GOG requirements is not to be taken seriously, at least not for older games. What they base them on - God only knows - but they do not add as much extra stuff that it should be that high.

Unless they are running all the old windows games on Windows Seven and Vista under a virtual machine. Even so it should not be as bad?
