jlg6184: Hey, still deciding here, had some more questions, I am still concsidering recommendations previously made, but was curious on the following games;

Chaser, Enclave, Empire Earth III, Fantasy Wars, Haegemonia Gold Edition, King's Bounty: The Legend, Second Sight, Star Wolves, and Tropico Reloaded

I have been going through the catalog here quite thoroughly, and these were some of the other games that have been jumping out at me.
Cant comment on those you just posted but I cant agree more with orcish about Lords of the Realm. A truely marvolous game.

Alright, I will read up on that as well. It looks rather dated, but I am assuming gameplay is solid based on reviews I have seen.

Also, the other two games I neglected to list in my last post was the Space Rangers games. I don't know why I am so damned indecisive. I mean a free game is a free game, but I keep going though the catalog looking for the prefect selection, lol.
The only games on your list I have are Enclave (pretty good hack-n-slash 3rd person, can't see me replaying it though) and Star Wolves (looks pretty, but I just can't get into it). If you're into space sims, then I'd recommend Independence War or Freespace 2 over Star Wolves.

Again, it's all subjective and personal opinion, but the best FPS on GOG I've played are Painkiller & Duke Nukem (with eDuke to improve the graphics) for single-player, and Unreal Tournament 2004 for multiplayer. If you want to go for an RPG game, then Baldur's Gate 2, or Neverwinter Nights arevery highly regarded.

Chaser is a decent shooter. Nothing special, but fun for a while.

I haven't played Fantasy Wars, but Elven Legacy, the sequel, is a lot of fun (though not exactly a cake walk). I think Fantasy Wars is extremely similar, so it's probably worth playing.

King's Bounty is love-it-or-hate-it. I love it. Don't go into it expecting Heroes of Might & Magic - despite the grid combat and surface similiarities, KB is all about adventuring, looting, and questing. Its main failing is that it can get a bit grindy and repetitive, so it's not something to binge on, especially given its considerable length.

I'm playing Enclave recently, but I honestly don't like it that much. The combat lacks punch, and hit detection isn't as tight as it needs to be. If you've played Rune, Enclave is similar, but not really as good.

Space Rangers 2 is a fun, addictive game with a fair bit of variety, but it's not something I'll probably play through very frequently.
Get the Might & Magic Limited Edition, and you have 7 role playing games that may keep you busy for quite some time.
King's Bounty is nice as a kind of 'background game'. You can grab it anytime, play for an hour, and leave it for weeks. It's all about grinding and playing tactical combat. It's a nice game IMHO.

Also, if you're into space sims, you should consider I-War and I-War 2 : Edge of Chaos. EoC is probably the closest to Freelancer or Darkstar One, but it's a bit more involved (joystick recommended). Freespace 2 is also a real classic, but it's gameplay is very different : no economics, it's basically a mission-based shooter in space, but the whole gameplay is fine-tuned to near perfection. Plus it's been opensourced, and the community has created countless improvements and new campaigns.
Thanks for the info and extra recommendations. I think I am gonna go over them one last time and finally make my decision...

Also thanks for the IWar recommendations, somehow I overlooked them in my searching of the catalog.

Damn, that series is full of really hard games. They are fun though.
Serious Sam games should be in the running for a shooter with Painkiller my preference of the two I still like the openness (compared to PK) of the Serious Sam games.

Divine Divinity and Sacred Gold in that order. . . =)

jlg6184: Hey guys, just looking for some recommendations to narrow down the GOG catalog a bit. Just won a Facebook promo from Gamezebo! good for one GOG game, the problem is that it is GOG and I am kinda stumped as to what to get because the catalog here is so damn good.

Currently leaning towards:

Arx Fatalis
Darkstar One
Painkiller: Black Edition

Just looking for some good recommendations that I may have overlooked (already have some of the D&D games like BG2 and NWN. through here or as retail discs).
I've heard you talk fondly of Dark Star One a lot so you might consider that.

My favorite on this site is Arcanum but Arx Fatalis is an awesome game and I would dare say does a better First Person RPG than Elder Scrolls does. The only thing is Arx Fatalis's scope isn't as large as Elder's Scrolls.

There's also been a patched released recently for Arx Fatalis that fixes some complaints people have had about the game over the past several years.

I own Dark Star One but the implimentation of Space Police really ruined the game for me because the Space Police will always be more concerned with you and contraband than the army of criminals and murders attacking you right in front of them.

So battles in DSO usually not only involve an armada of pirates but also the Space Police at the same time and the Space Police never stop calling in reinforcements.

Also, forget that Han Solo thing where he did a hyper jump to escape from assailants - you have to be a certain distance from enemies for hyper jump to work and when you've got twenty of them chasing you and shooting you in the back while you're running, you'll never make it far enough way before you're sunk.

LOL

But in all seriousness, I have been contemplating trying that Chocolate Muscle Milk for a little while now (gas station conveniently places it by my energy drinks.) Thanks for the heads up on that, it is much appreciated.

Yeah, the taste is just very chalky & unpleasant...its not the flavor I imagine when I hear the word "chocolate." I haven't tried the plain vanilla one though, so that may actually be good for all I know.
