kkaden: 13th Warrior is an excellent movie, if you can find it definitely pick it up
It's actually based off a novel that I read, called "Eaters of the Dead". Great Read.
When the raven flies, is an Icelandic/Swedish movie set during the late viking-age

Yeah, that's a Michael Crichton book.

Speaking of which, and more on topic perhaps take a look at Timeline. Not the best movie in the world, but entertaining and the bulk of it takes place in medieval France.
Beowulf & Grendel is a very atmospheric retelling of the Beowulf epic poem, filmed in Iceland. Less focused on action, it puts the tragic tale of the "monster" that attacks a settlement in the Danelands and the people who respond in their own different ways to this in the center of the plot.

A most excellent choice, very underrated movie. Top notch performances by Michael Caine & Omar Sharif, I can't for the love of all that's good understand how this movie has been lost, just like the valley it portrays.

awalterj: Best story: The Advocate aka The Hour of the Pig; The Return of Martin Guerre
Most epic
: El Cid (not modern 'edgy' as requested by OP, most epic nevertheless)
Most fun: A Knight's Tale
Most refreshingly anti-romantic: Flesh + Blood
Most with Michelle Pfeiffer in it : Ladyhawke
