Hello. I've already decided to preorder The Witcher, but can't choose which $5.99 game to get, so I came here for some help.

My OS is Win 7 64-bit. I'm not particularly interested in strategy games or RPGs,but everything else is okay. I also prefer games that can be improved somehow by mods or unofficial patches/content.

5,99$, no strategy, no RPG, Win7 64bit and the use of mods or fanpatchs => Duke Nukem 3D

It normally runs with DosBox, but you can use eDuke32 port to run it natively under Windows. There are also many mods, especially the High-Res for better graphics. The game itself is a nice old-school first person shooter and the mood is like Die Hard meets Aliens in a funny way.

Edit: You can find a list of modsin the subforum.

You are not interested in RPGs,yet you preordered Witcher 2 which is an RPG. And if I'm not mistaken you want to take your pick among the games which you can choose free from with the preorder, right?

Well, they are all RPGs: Beyond Divinity, Divine Divinity, Gothic 2 Gold Edition, Realms of Arkania 1+2 and Realms of Arkania 3

Beside the rpg games you can choose from you get also a credit. Maybe that's why he don't want another rpg.
Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers. It's neither an RPG nor a strategy game, but it is the best game on GOG. :-)

The definition of RPG is very broad, and the Witcher has a lot of action-adventure elements compared to, for example, Fallout. I predicted many people would recommend the Fallout series which, among other things, has only turn-based combat, so I said I wasn't interested in RPGs.

Hm, thank you for the non-biased opinion. ;) Duke Nukem 3D wouldn't be a bad choice since I plan on trying out DNF.

Get the Fallout games anyway, they're great.

This, for certain ;-)

Or maybe The Last express, but that one is a bit more tough on the nerves, if not infinitely more immersive.
Fallout tactics isnt really an RPG in any sense of the term IMO and you can choose between turn based or real time.
If you own a joystick, I'd say Freespace 2 is a great choice. Just install the new opensource engine, a few custom campaigns (including FSPort, so you can play Freespace 1 campaign inside Freespace 2) and you're good for a few months of pure fun.

Without a joystick, though, the game becomes a bit more involved. There are some very good players that use the mouse or just plain keyboard, it requires some skill but it's very doable.
if you are into city building games i would suggest Caesar 3, it can bring hours of fun if you can learn the game well

if you are looking for classic fps serious sam first encounter or the second encounter would be worth getting
