Hello all, Rainbow Six Rogue Spear is the first PC game I ever played and it is the game that hooked me! It is still my number 1 classic today and I really am itching to play it. Unfortunately, being the early adopter/techie that I am, this game DOES NOT work on Windows 8. It has known issues in Win 7 with AMD cards (my laptop falls in this category) I know there is a fix out there, but I haven't tried it and I would like to play it on my NV / Win 8 desktop.

I'd love to petition for this game to be updated for GOG, it is well-deserving and the original is indeed a GOG title. However, I am more asking the community for any ideas to make this title playable.

So far, the game fails to load. I believe the movies load (I disabled them) and then a black screen appears followed by a CTD. I have tried any and all compatibility settings, software render vs. hardware render, uninstall/reinstall, No-Cd cracks (my copy is legal and I own the original CDs, just was trying a different EXE) and nothing has worked. My next phase is to mess around with graphics driver settings in Nvidia Inspector.

This problem applies to other RS derivitives such as Urban Ops, Covert Ops and Black Thorn. The Covert Ops Training Disc fails launch with "showtech initialization failure"

Does anyone have any ideas or can provide insight?

I'm in the same boat as you. I tried Windows 98, 2000, XP, 7 all in VMware workstation and I couldn't get any of them to play. Closest I got was Windows 7 where it loads the menus, but it crashes every time when it loads a level.

GOG, please please please make this gem available in your library. You did the original Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon and this one and its expansions are BETTER.

Rogue Spear, Urban Ops, Black Thorn and Covert Ops (which highlights real-life counter-terror training programs) are true classics and important milestones in the development of tactical shooters. As such, I truly feel that preserving these classics is a worthy goal. I wish I could help you make this a reality since this game was my first tactical FPS and remains one of my favorite games ever but I have no expertise.

I'm a fan of the original R6 games. I would totally instabuy them all if GOG could get the whole bunch. :)

Edit. Oh and more on topic: I have played Rogue Spear on Windows 7 & AMD GPU. It's possible but might be tricky. I'm sorry I can't remember exactly how.
