Im trying to format a students pen drive at a night class. (locked out of the admin side of it)

Can I use the dos mode in windows to format it and what would I tell it to do.


(Windows brat cant remember dos.)

Command prompt right?

You can type the letter of the drive ex type: "F:" (no quotes) if it's the F drive. It'll then be on your pen drive. type FORMAT and click enter. It'll probably ask if your sure Y/N. type Y for yes, N for no.

If your not sure your on the right drive, type dir to get the directory contents. If it says it's unformatted, your most likely on the right drive. If your reformatting and recognize some files on it (using command dir) or it's empty your most likely on the right drive also since for example an optical drive will give message device not ready. Remember A, B are reserved for floppy and C: is reserved for main hard drive. D and E are usually optical drives but it could be different dpending on the setup of that machine, whether there are multiple partitions etc.

That's about it. You can also do it in one line such as Format F:

Yeah Command propt was what I ment.

Looks like these computers are locked out even for that though the drive is supposedly E:\

And it just gives a load of crap, cant even upload an image from here.
