I didn't find Dead Space particulary scary, it is still an entertaining game though, I found Dead Space also better than Doom 3.
When I played it, it somehow reminded me of Bioshock, it could be as Dead Space started out as a spiritual inspired sequel to System Shock too although they dropped that idea later in the developement.
