lukaszthegreat: Indeed. There should be seasons for smokers culling.
Typical.

bazilisek: How I envy you guys. This is one piece of legislation that our wonderful MPs simply can't find the courage to push trough.
Yeah, this is one of the very few things our government had courage to do.

ps. lowyhong, you should know that the most of the Poles can't see the difference between Asians. Basically, you'll be from China for everyone.

Ah well. Should be good for shits and giggles for the initial months that I'm there :P

OldEnt: Do not be afraid to ask for help. Refusing to answer to a question of a guest or at least pointing him to more knowledgeable person is considered very rude.
Interesting, but what happens if the person really has no idea?

lukaszthegreat: Also we expect all chinese to know kungfu, karate or other martial arts (blame hollywood movies)

you better pick up some before going there.
I can fight like an ape when in a frenzy, if that counts for anything.

lowyhong: And then of course, I should also bluntly ask this: how are Asians generally treated? ;D
avatar
OldEnt: Nobody has problems with Asians - Cities like Warsaw, Gdańsk and Wrocław are very, uhm, international. Students from China are not uncommon in the most prestigious universities. Nobody is surprised to see foreign-looking man on main Polish cities' streets these days, really. :'D
Well, I would not be so enthusiastic about good treating of foreign-looking persons. Of course majority of Poles in large cities got used to that, but there are still some people, especially at countryside, where OP will be in the center of interest and sometimes could be even worse. On your place I would avoid any disco party in small town.

I would suggest that to ANYONE.

He asks other by-passer for help or at least says he is very sorry. Otherwise he will burn in eternal flames.

Yes, but being foreign-looking person is even more dangerous.

I think we are making here a big deal of something ridiculously irrelevant. There are almost thousand foreign students in University of Warsaw alone, 200 of them are Asian (2008 y data). People from all over the world have been visiting and living in the capital for years. Just... skip it.

Yes, I know. I would like only to point difference that in other Europe's countries like France, Italy, many "at first look: foreigners" in the end turn out to be natives. There is hard to find 3rd+ generation natives with foreign look in Poland. Most of them has started to appear here only recently.
